Thirty Nights with a Dirty Boy: Part 1: A Heroes and Heartbreakers Serial by Shiloh Walker
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In a three part serial, Thirty Nights with a Dirty Boy part 1 starts out slow and a bit somber. Ella Cruise is a reserved woman at her friend's bar. She isn't there to hook up. She isn't there to experience life. Instead, it seems she is there to watch it as a scientist observes cockroaches skittering in the dark and mating.

I like Ella. This first part paints a melancholy picture hinting of prior abuse. It is obvious the abuse is sexual in nature. Ms. Walker builds this disturbing foundation as she gives us glimpses into Ella's life. Ella could be isolated for life, yet she understand her loneliness and she wants to overcome it. Not sure how this could ever happen, sparks ignite when she spies on Sean Lachlan, a bartender with benefits working at her friend's bar. Sean is a Scottish rogue who services women in multiple ways. This is the third time in the past months which I've come across a woman looking for paid companion. It is intriguing as in all three stories, the men are selling their bodies because of a desperate need for cash to support a loved one. This is not too different than when women sell their bodies, yet for some reason, the desperation from a man willing to sell his body seems to be more of an impact.

This first part in the series draws the reader in, wanting to know who Ella really is and why she would need to pay for company. Sean is a sexy man who seems to draw Ella out of her shell. This initial getting to know each other makes for an alluring bait to read part two. This story is well written with a slow simmer and a vague world building frame work. Recommended for romance readers who enjoy angst.

Thirty Nights with a Dirty Boy: Part 2: A Heroes and Heartbreakers SerialThirty Nights with a Dirty Boy: Part 2: A Heroes and Heartbreakers Serial by Shiloh Walker

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Ella and Sean draw the readers deeper into their world in part two. This one is all about the loving rhythm Ella and Sean find with each other. This is definitely the honeymoon stage as Sean coaxes Ella so sweeting out of her protective shell. Everyone around Ella can see a difference. What would progress be if not for some setbacks? This buildup keeps a reader's attention. This story increased to a 3.5 star for me.

This middle part is well written with highs of erotic overtones damped by lows of business realities. When business is about pleasure, the lines become even more blurred. It appears, unlike female mistresses who know they must always be the ever ready one for their lover, male escorts do not know the same. It is interesting to see how in historical romance novels, the mistresses are catering to the whims of their lover and ensuring they only present a happy loving sex kitten persona. Whereas the contemporary male mistress so to speak, like to remind women they are only "on the job" when they are together. Funny how women give it their all and men like to draw the lines. Or perhaps this is how female authors perceive male prostitutes.

The conflict in this story is painfully executed which tugs a reader's heartstrings. The pace to the story is faster than the first and contains more delights rather than downers. And yet there are still hints of possible heartbreak in the next. After reading part two, there is a burning desire to finish it with part three. It is not a cliff hanger, more a hook to pull a reader into the finale. Recommended for erotica readers who enjoy the honeymoon stage and hope for more.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The explosive ending explains it all. Part three is heartbreaking, moving and redeeming. All the different pieces come together. Ella's painful past is revealed. Whilst her abuse is heinous, it is not as bad as I thought it would be. Ella's raison d'etre ties beautifully to Sean's burning need to save his sister. Between the misunderstandings, grievances and showdowns, this book contains it all.

Sean may joke about his sexual healing for Ella, yet it rings true. Ella is now a woman who is taking back her right to be loved and to banish her self-inflicted solitude. Sean is the catalyst helping Ella become the woman she knew she wanted to be. This is reflected in her work and personal life. It is nice to see Ella standing up for herself rather than have the information provided to her protectors to say it for her. After much turmoil, this little butterfly is finally out of her chrysalis and what a magnificent butterfly she has become.

I loved this last part. For those who seek justice and vengeance, this story satisfies. Ella now faces down her past and is no longer ashamed. It was never her shame to take on, yet as a young child, how can one not feel shame and fear? Sean's brutal past is finally put to bed so he too can move on and live the life he wants. This is all about making choices for a better today and tomorrow. The hope in this story is uplifting and Ms. Walker shows it so smoothly. This well written conclusion brings the happily ever after we all want. Recommended for romance readers who want their cake and eat it too.
