Review: The Dragon in the Garden

The Dragon in the Garden The Dragon in the Garden by Erika Gardner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Stimulating and captivating, new to me author, Ms. Gardner charms me with this paranormal romance. How have I not read this author before? This tale is magical and weaves a complex story of a girl with a past shrouded in pain and mystery. There are hints about her father's side of the family which are not yet revealed. What is known is, Siobhan's world is about to become a lot more interesting.
What I liked about this book is how much takes place in it. It is packed with action and the plot moves along quickly. It is just the right pace as events foretold are finally coming to fruition. Siobhan is about to play her part in saving the world and she is totally unprepared for it. Luckily for her, her brother and former lover are by her side. It also helps to have a fallen angel and a Valkyrie training and protecting her.

The character development is well done. Siobhan's personal growth in her adventures happens rapidly as she takes in new information that would make most people fall apart. Her inherent goodness and moral compass shows through as all good heroes do on a quest. Her quest contains many parts and her actions impacts many. Some of them are the supporting cast as well as some minor characters. Ms. Gardner lovingly creates each of her characters because they all play an important part. On this chess board in this war, even the sacrificed pawn or knight is strongly created so that when they are damaged, it is a shock to the reader.  This story invokes strong emotions as it introduces a supernatural world whilst interlacing a romance. Because if the end of the world is going to happen, might as well seize the day and take that chance on love. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy maidens who can save themselves and partner up with dragons. I can not wait to read the next book in this series.
