As the first female operative at Alpha Security, Charlotte "Charlie" Sparks has her work cut out for her. Review: Fatal Threat

Fatal Threat by Marie Force
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Politicians and law enforcement may head butt every so often, but what happens when a husband is in politics and the wife is in law enforcement? My real question for this story is why have I never read Ms. Force before? Her name is familiar to me and I thought about reading her books and somehow always shied away. Ms. Force is now on my list to auto read. I really enjoyed this book. Even though I started this series on book number eleven, it was easy for me to get up to speed. I may have enjoyed this book even more if I started with the first book in the series. Still, this book can be read as a standalone.

The plot development is what really pulled me into the story. Sam Holland is a lieutenant for DC Metro police. She is used to being the protector. She is the shield and no one is going to stand in the line of fire for her. Usually this is fine but when her personal life includes being the wife of the vice president, things become …

Review: Bud

Bud by Candace Blevins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sadistic bad boy Bud finally gets his own book. I was mixed reading this book because I didn't like Bud from the few times he made an appearance in this series. Not sure why he bothered me so much from the few glimpses I saw of him, other than it felt like he disrespected females. Not as if he went out of his way to put women down. More like their existent to him seemed worthless. The impression I had of him was that women were less useful than property. After he lost his mate, any hole would work for him. In addition, women had no place to speak, ever. He came across to me as one of those guys who will never purposely go out of his way to hurt a woman, but he wouldn't help them unless he gets something out of it. And the only value a woman has for him is to receive cum in any of the three holes or all over their body. I hated him because it is more than the Madonna versus Whore persona he seemed to embrace. The way he allowed his…

Hawt new installment of  Rolling Motorcycle Club @Candaceblevins #mustread #alphamale #badboys

Nickie’s an investigative journalist who recently faced some of the worst men
she’s ever confronted — which would’ve been fine if the FBI hadn’t lost them when she’d practically handed them over on a silver platter.
She vacations in Cancun to get away from the horrors she saw while probing into the human trafficking organization, and doesn’t expect they’ll be able to find her while she travels under another of her pen names.
Bud is in Mexico on club business, staying in a Cancun resort dressed as an American businessman. He meets the beautiful Nicole and gets caught up protecting her when he discovers she’s all alone in Mexico with human traffickers after her. She’d paid the resort extra to provide protection services, but Bud fears the bad guys have outbid her and bought her security out from under her.
Can Bud take an investigative journalist home to Atlanta? She’s good at her job — will she turn on hi…

Review: Before the Dawn

Before the Dawn by Cynthia Eden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well written, thought provoking and endearing, Ms. Eden knocks a reader off their feet. This is the second book in the series. Full disclosure, I read this book out of order. This book can be read as a standalone. I have read Ms. Eden's books before. Mostly, I tried her paranormal romance and enjoyed it. I tried her contemporary years ago and it fell flat. Not sure what to expect, I picked this book up. I am so glad I did. The growth in Ms. Eden's writing voice and plot development is impressive. From the very first page of this story, I'm hooked in.

This is a page turner as we learn about a Tucker Frost and his past. Tucker's intimate experience with a serial killer drives him in both his personal and work life. They say there are life changing events in a person's life who defines them. Tucker is lucky enough to have many; unfortunately most were horrifically abusive. Tucker is a complex character with quest…

Review: Trusting Justice

Trusting Justice by J.J. Lore
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Telling the story from the loser side colours the book a bit more grey. For Sasha, the world is bleak and depressing. After two decades of oppression and being treated as less than intelligent, she finally clawed her way into a good spot. Or at least as good as it gets with aliens as the conquerors on Earth. She is basically a janitor at an Earther museum. She has barely enough to eat and a place of her own. This is several steps up from her original life, stealing for food and running with a crowd that definitely crossed the line of legal, with or without aliens. When her place in life is threatened, she thinks there is nowhere to turn because it isn't as if the aliens, Sion, will take the word of an Earthling. To her surprise, the investigator Sion, Dram Opano, is a bit more receptive to humans than other Sion.

This cross lifeform love interest starts out slow and brimming with distrust. This is to be expected as the two race…

About Suspicious Behavior

Detective Darren Corliss is hanging by a thread. In between recovering from a near-fatal wound and returning to work at a hostile precinct, he’s struggling to help care for his ailing brother. His partner and boyfriend, Detective Andreas Ruffner, wants to help, but doesn’t know how. And with his own family crises brewing, Andreas is spread almost as thin as Darren.

For cops, though, life takes a backseat to the job. When a stack of unsolved homicides drops into their laps, Andreas and Darren think they’re unrelated cold cases. But when a connection surfaces, they find themselves on the tail of a prolific serial killer who’s about to strike again.

Except they’ve got nothing. No leads. No suspects. Just a pile of circumstantial evidence and a whole lot of hunches. Time is running out to stop the next murder—and to pull themselves back from their breaking points.
