Review: The Billionaires: The Bosses

The Billionaires: The Bosses by Calista Fox
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Billionaire kinky men have been done over and over again. How can this one be any different? It may not exactly be different; it is erotically explosive and deliciously written. Ms. Fox is quickly becoming one of the authors I auto read. I do not even bother to find out what the book is about. If her name is on it, I'll read it. And I will enjoy it.

In this series, Bayli is a determined woman who is intuitive and self motivated. I really liked her. Sure she has two best friends who are supportive and can give her a helping hand. She doesn't want handouts. She wants to make it on her own and she knows what she wants. What she wants is to to be famous through modeling maybe some acting. Is it that models and actors moonlight as waitresses or vice versa? Bayli wants to be a hostess for a very exclusive restaurant owned by billionaires Rory St. James and Christian Davila. When she is flat turned down, it does not …

Review: The Wicked Billionaire

The Wicked Billionaire by Jackie Ashenden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Lucas is a wicked man whom any woman with a beating heart would want to test drive. Lucas is the definition of a gruff stoic man. He may have started out life with a raw deal, but getting adopted by a rich man did give him a boost up. He never took it for granted which is what makes him more attractive. Of course, being a Navy SEAL also makes him quite appealing.

Lucas is sent on a path by his dead father that sends him in a talespin. The man other than his adopted brothers he thought he could trust had a secret that killed him. When Lucas uncovers the dirty dealing and it leads to his friend's widow, Grace, things start to get interesting.

I enjoyed this second book in the series better than the first one. This book can also be read as a standalone. In this one, Lucas is a more likeable character. He has an interesting code and it is fair. He may grudgingly help out. The important thing is, he is loyal and he keep…

I met Marco once, before the night he took me. He’d been dark and unquestionably dangerous, and alluring in a way I didn’t allow myself to contemplate. I’d clung to Joseph, looking to my first love to protect me from his intimidating best friend.
Then Joseph left me, alone and broken; vulnerable to enemies I hadn’t known threatened me from the shadows.
But it wasn’t his enemies I should have feared, since his best friend is the monster who abducted me. And when I wake up, taken and trapped, the man I love is by the monster’s side.
Joseph says he can’t let me go. Marco says he won’t let me go.

Review: Wood Be Magic

Wood Be Magic by Zenina Masters
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This series keeps delivering fantastic happily ever afters. Wood Be Magic is one I really enjoyed. The magic users have been pretty quiet through all these changes to the world of mating at Crossroads. This is the first one to feature one of the mages. Melwiss is a very magically little girl who blossomed into a powerful witch. This story just barely goes into her history and glosses over her past. I would have loved to read more about her and more of what she can do. Still, this isn't a coming of age story. This is a story focused on mating and find the one who rocks your world. For Melwiss, it is Andy... a beaver shifter.

I liked Andy when he first appeared a few books back. I didn't think he would get his own book so it's nice to see him feature here. This romance is a bit different in the sense that Melwiss and Andy already know each other. They are attracted but under the decree from the mage guild, Melwiss is no…

Review: So I Married a Sorcerer

So I Married a Sorcerer by Kerrelyn Sparks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How have I missed this series? This new series from talented Ms. Sparks captures my attention and keeps me riveted from the first page to the end. Full disclosure, I did not read the book before this one and I will be buying it to read. It is possible to get caught up just reading this book as a standalone.

I love this new world. I love the concept of being embraced just as I like the different kingdoms. A feudal world with warring factions, despots, betrayal and a lost prince, what could be more interesting? Ah yes, magic and mutant powers!

Britta is a sheltered embraced witch who lived in a protective island where her father sent her. She doesn't know her history but when it comes to light, it throws her into a loop. When she is captured by her blood brother's army and then stolen by a handsome pirate, her staid life becomes too exciting. She knew this would happen because one of her sisters foretold this ha…

Review: Wolf Hunger

Wolf Hunger by Paige Tyler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

In a world that is constant changing, Max Lowry is apprehensive about finding his "One". He sees his team mates falling hard for women. He isn't sure if he wants it or not, but if it happens, he would be happy. Still, he is the youngest on the team and his chances seem slim. Plus he is struggling still to control his wolf. When he meets Lana Mason off chance, he's over the moon with finding his one. Now that she's appeared, he is no longer mixed in what he wants.

This 7th book in the series can be read as a standalone. It is better to read the previous books for more context about an underlying plot. Lana is a woman who is smart and determined. She finds Max just as attractive as he does her. Young love is beautiful until daddy comes in and throws down. Lana's father is determined to keep Max from her. It doesn't help that Lana's father is pretty much Max's boss. Confused as to why Lana's fath…

Review: Melting Ice 3

Melting Ice 3 by D.J. Manly
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Returning to the theme of a bad boy mixing up a good one, this third in the series can be read as a standalone. This time, two law enforcement agents are together. Vice detective Andre Dubois is working on a case when it goes completely pear shaped. The elusive man he's after, Mr. K vanishes and a new player is in town. When G-man Wayne Connelly pulls Andre from his case and into protective custody, it does not smell right. Andre is pissed and Wayne is resigned.

Whilst I understand this story is focused on the budding relationship between these two sexy men, I'm too focused on what happened to Wayne. I am so angry at how Wayne was treated. Who treats someone this way just because of his sexual orientation? And in this day and age in the States of all places. I am sure this happens but it doesn't happen on my watch and certainly not on my team or the teams I work with. This kind of discrimination and blatant disrespect f…

Review: Forging Krampus

Forging Krampus by Crymsyn Hart
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

On the naughty list and worried that Krampus is going to come after you? Not to worry because Krampus is focused on other issues. Badly behaving humans is the least of his worries. There is an anomaly with another Incarnation and for some reason, Nyx believes it is Krampus's job to figure it out. This is the fourth book in the series and can be read as a standalone. It is recommended to read the first three books because they are delicious.

I am totally team Krampus. He is a kinky bastard who can be ruthless. He is a task master for his creations and whilst it may be disturbing, it is still somehow just. For those who have issues with humans treated like meat, move along. Whilst this doesn't delve into the badly behaving humans, it does highlight the punishment for them. This dark humour is definitely up my alley.

This series is different for me. I thought it would be just one erotic short story after another. As Krampu…

Review: Take to the Limit

Take to the Limit by Dawn Ryder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Auto read author, Ms. Ryder pens another angsty romance with suspense and sensual tension. I realize this series is called unbroken heroes. They may not be broken but they sure are damaged. In this one, Bram Magnus is mixed because he loved his hawt girlfriend, only to be heartbroken when she cheats on him. LeAnn is about as shallow as one can imagine. Trading on her looks, she is a good for nothing slut. She's the type of person who will take her toys, break them and then toss them aside. The second someone expresses a bit of interest in her broken unwanted toy, she will snatch it back just out of spite. LeAnn is a disgusting excuse of a human being and worst as a sister. They way she treats Jaelyn is shameful. What kind of a sister does this kind of crap?

I loathed LeAnn but she was good for something - as accidental bait. The story isn't about that ungrateful harlot, it is about how Bram an Jaelyn fight their attracti…

Review: Promise To Defend

Promise To Defend by Diana Gardin
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Fiercely independent, Olive is not going to accept some caveman tossing his orders around... even if she may need a little help. This second book in the series features Rayne's older sister, Olive and can be read as a standalone.

Olive is the damsel in distress that Ronin can possibly save. Ronin is messed up due to a perceived failing to protect his wife. This haunts him to no end and makes him into a surly overprotective alpha male, perfect for his job in private security. When he meets up with Olive again and sees a more distressed woman than the perfectly calm one, he pushes himself into her life. He can't help himself. Olive still deludes herself that she can take on her stalker by herself. When the situation gets out of hand, it is fortunate, she has her new brother in law to turn to... Ronin.

These characters are perfected matched to each other. They have great chemistry and they have needs that are met by the…

Review: Walk Between the Raindrops

Never underestimate a petite woman; it could kill you. #Myrageissuespaleincomparison @tymberdalton
Walk Between the Raindrops by Tymber Dalton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Never underestimate a petite woman; it could kill you. This story hurt my heart so much. I've liked Scyre and June as they seem to be the mentors in the Suncoast Society. Scrye is the ultimate rope/rigger guy and they seem to have a wonderful life. They have fabulous kinky sex and they have two lovely daughters. They have a great set of friends, what more can they ask for? When the past is revealed about June, it is heartbreaking.

I really enjoyed this book because it made me cry. I can not imagine what it would be like to lose a twin. To lose a twin the way June lost July is horrendous. This book is yet another one in the series where it is more focused on the character and not so much on the kinky relationship. It's more about June and her intensity. I like June and I'm impressed with her sense of justice an…

Review: Hard Justice

Hard Justice by April Hunt
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

For a fast paced action paced romantic suspense, this book will deliver. Charlie is a spitfire. She also has a huge chip on her shoulder. There are valid reasons why she is so aggressive. It is because she is the only female on this private security team, Alpha Security. And when her past is revealed, it explains so much about her. Yet it makes me wonder why the rest of her team doesn't know about her past. Because seriously, they are a private security team. Don't they want to know the details of the people working for them?

I like the concept of this series, specifically with the Alpha Security and their mission. I also like the bar they have as an undercover base. It may not be practical but it is totally up my alley. It is the characters in this series that doesn't exactly work for me. I never grew to like Charlie. She is so contrary that it's like hugging a porcupine. Yet it works for her love interest, Vince.

Review: Wicked Deeds

Wicked Deeds by Heather Graham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Following on the heels of Dark Rites, Wicked Deeds features Vickie and Griffin. Whilst this could be read as a standalone, it would be better to read Dark Rites first. It seems murders follow them around. On a little rest and relaxation, Vickie and Griffin trip over a dead body. With their background, they quickly become entangled with this murder case. Especially as Vickie keeps seeing what she believes is Edgar Allan Poe's ghost.

This story once again weaves back and forth between past and present. It can be a bit disorienting for a reader. I quickly got into it and enjoyed the little pieces of speculation Ms. Graham makes about Edgar Allan Poe. As a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe, this reinterpretation of historic events is fascinating to me. Is shows the creativity as well as the research Ms. Graham goes through to create a complex world with hidden meanings behind many actions. I love it. This story gives me more of a X-files…

Review: Urban Enemies

Urban Enemies by Joseph Nassise
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Generally, I steer clear of anthologies like this one. Specifically because the stories end abruptly and I want more. I am left hanging, what I call, premature book ending. I am not a fan of anything premature. Still, I pushed forward and picked this book up because of the following authors: Kelley Armstrong, Lilith Saintcrow, Faith Hunter and Carrie Vaughn. Call me a sexist, I don't care. It is rare I read male authors anymore because their character development interests me not (unless it is Neil Gaiman. I'll read anything he writes or draws.) I digress.

I was pleasantly surprised by this entire collection. The stories for the most part all finished nicely with a satisfactory ending. What I enjoyed most about this collection is that it featured all the bad guys. And they weren't really bad when you looked at it from their perspective. What surprised me was my enjoyment of Jim Butcher's story. It almost makes m…

Ready to be Outside the Lines? @Riptidebooks #blogtour #contest

About Outside the Lines Miniature artist Ian Meyers has one week to rebuild his damaged set. Needing help, he goes to End o’ Earth, the local comic and gaming shop. Owner Simon Derry pushes all of Ian’s buttons, and he also has steady hands and the skills Ian needs.

Before they can even grab a beer, Ian meets Lydia Derry, Simon’s wife. If Ian had any interest in women, he’d suggest a threesome, but then Simon explains that he and Lydia are polyamorous, and if Ian wants Simon, neither of them will complain. If anything, Lydia encourages the relationship.

Ian’s all in, and it’s fantastic working with Simon to piece together his set and then take each other apart at night. His friendship with Lydia grows too. The only problem is, the more time he spends with Simon, the more he wants everything Simon already has with Lydia: A house. A cat. A commitment. So Ian runs, and shatters the trust he has with them both—right when they ne…
