Review: Suck The Savage Beast

Suck The Savage Beast by James Cox
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

There is no one quite like Mr. Cox when it comes to writing m/m space opera. He is an addictive author who pens ridiculous situations and makes them so bloody erotic. In the latest in this series, Mars is coming apart. Hoping to return back to the devastated Earth, Weilliver, one of the Outlaw MC founder's son, is on a mission. He returns to earth to study if they can bring all their people back. Unfortunately, he knows there are threats that did not exist prior to the humans' exodus. Specifically, the crazy mutant octopi monsters that are not friendly loving with their tentacles. This is one tentacle sex that a human would not survive. What surprises Weilliver is the discovery of some humans still on planet earth, namely… Beast.

Beast has been left on Earth alone for so long, he's lost quite a bit of his humanity. His reactions are almost primal which makes sex with him rough and playful. Once again, Mr. Cox pen…

Review: The Merman's Kiss

The Merman's Kiss by Tamsin Ley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A melancholy start blends into a beautiful love story with sad undertones. New to me author, Ms. Ley entices me into her world of merman and mermaids. In this world, mermaids are evil cold hearted seductresses. They are more like the sirens who sing a male to their death. These females are hateful vile creatures that should be spear hunted and slain. Well, that's my opinion after reading what happens to Zantu and his brothers.

Zantu is a merman who tries to protect his sanity and virtue from the fickle mermaids. Still, he is a hopeless romantic and wants to have a female who will love him as much as he wants to devote himself to her. This is an interesting flip of the usual female who is lovelorn and tossed aside by cads. Zantu finds a human female, Brianna drowning and cannot help but save her. He does have a soft heart as he tries to save his nephew, brother and pretty much any underdog who needs saving. Zantu is a whi…

Review: Cold Reign

Cold Reign by Faith Hunter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

European tends to conjure up old world sensibilities and manners. In this latest non-stop action book, Jane is plagued with these old world asinine vampires. This book has been a long time coming as hints of the European Vampires' visit has been on the horizon. Still, the planned visit seemed to be far out into the future as the vampire world tends to move so slowly with all the different fancy protocols which need to be followed. It is surprising to all when revenants running amok lead back to the European delegation.

Not surprisingly, this book's theme covers yet another betrayal close to home. Seriously, are there no vampire interactions which does not lead to betrayal? Perhaps for those who live such a long life, there is no enjoyment without drama, assassinations and political intrigue. There must be something exciting to combat the decade after decade of ennui. For Jane and her human short lived friends, this excitement…

Review: Souljacker

Souljacker by Yasmine Galenorn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Exciting new series from Ms. Galenorn, Lily O'Connell hooks a reader in and bewitches them. Lily is a demon, specifically as succubus. She sells her body to men willing to pay for her skills. This is the only way she can keep herself fed, especially as her clientele are filled with paranormal men. This is, until a well known client is murdered and causes a lot of trouble for her.

I liked Lily. She is a down on her luck just trying to make it in the world, in spite of her draw backs. She tries to do the right thing and yet she is constantly kicked in the teeth for it. It burns me how poorly people treat a woman who sells her body. If Lily knew she could do something different, she would. She isn't hurting anyone and she certainly isn't going out seducing men which technically she could as a succubus. I'm angry at women who blame the "other woman" when it is really their husbands they need to take to task. …

Review: Silence Fallen

Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The more times I revisit this book, the more I love it. When I first sped through this book, it was a four star for me. As I've now re-read it several more times, I find that I love it enough to bump it to a five star. For me, if I give up other books to re-read a specific book, I must really like the book. And what is not to like about Mercy?

This book is different in writing style from some of the others. It could be because I'm reading an arc version, but I do not recall having a Mercy book where it switches between different point of views with it clearly stated at the top of the chapter. Nor do I recall the timeline being presented simultaneously. I like it. It kind of is like a Pulp Fiction-esque story with a lot happening. There are several subplots going on which all neatly blend together to become a bigger picture. Ms. Briggs does an excellent job of creating multiple streams and using them as building blocks …

Review: A Perfect Obsession

A Perfect Obsession by Heather Graham
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The second book in this new series is chilling and well written. Ms. Graham is an author I automatically buy and read. Her suspense ones are well thought out with disturbing killers. The books are not written from the killer's point of view so it helps to keep it from becoming too creepy.

In this one, we meet Special Agent Craig Fraiser again. He appeared in the first book as did his girlfriend, Kieran Finnegan. I like Kieran even though she works for shrinks and is one. These two are pulled into a disturbing case as a famous model is killed in a nightclub right by her family's bar. As more information comes out, Kieran finds herself torn between two different men - her lover and her brother. This conflict ads to the suspense. I liked how the reader is given a little bit of information and is in the same boat as Kieran and Craig, racing to try and figure out the killer's identity. It is more fun for me to try an…

Review: The Billionaire Beast

The Billionaire Beast by Jackie Ashenden
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Beast does describe Nero quite well. Nero is a kinky type of Howard Hughes, except the reason for Nero's isolation is horrific. I fell for Nero as his traumatic past is revealed. He is definitely a boy with mommy issues and seriously needs some social skill courses. Still, leniency for his behaviour is understandable as each abusive incident in his past comes to light.

From a character building perspective, I really liked this story. Nero is this anti-hero who is ruthless and does whatever he wants because he can. He is a prickly jerk because he has not come out of his victim mentality. He does things which demonstrates he still isn't over the lack of control he had as a child. In addition, he has not reconciled what his mother did to him. He thinks he is a survivor but until he meets Phoebe, no one has put him in his place to really look at his own behaviours. Basically his power trips are a reaction to whenever…

Review: Linger

Linger by V.E. Campudoni
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

New to me author V.E. Campudoni pens an interesting tale. Specifically, the BDSM in this story is hawt and romanticized. The characters are too. Enzio is the one who I liked in this story. From a character perspective, he has more depth. He's a gentle soul who also exudes some serious sexy dominant vibes. His job as a professional dominant may help this vibe going.

From a BDSM element, this book is good and I'd categorize as a Gateway into BDSM. With the requisite elite club which also makes this a glitterkink book for me, it is just the right tone for readers who want to get a little kinky. What brought this story down for me was the main character, Lana Matthews. She is a shallow user who doesn't deserve a friend like Enzio. She is clueless and thoughtless. Very little about her is admirable or redeemable. She's a dumbass who should be left in the cold so that Enzio could move on.

Oddly, this story isn't about fri…

Review: Leather and Grace

Leather and Grace by Maggie Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Quentin is a broken man. His submissive, Beth disappeared years ago and he never got over it. It made him leave the lifestyle for a while. When he is pulled back against his will to help teach a class at the club he partial owns, his world is shaken up. Specifically, a new to BDSM submissive, Grace reminds him of all the reasons why he liked being a dominant. And why it is so good to have a submissive female on her knees, waiting to submit. Grace for her part, is a woman who is finally exploring her submissive desires. When she falls for the sexy "do not touch" instructor, Quentin, things start to get weird.

Always a fan of Ms. Ryan, I know I'm up for some good BDSM. She definitely delivers. The club is fabulous. The BDSM scenes are arousing, especially for those who enjoy D/s and power exchange. What is surprising is the suspense element to this story. It is well done with the right amount of tension. It bl…

Review: At His Mercy

At His Mercy by Shelly Bell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Awkward when your one night stand turns out to be your professor at college. This story was odd for me. It felt like it was going several different directions. My guess is to make the story a bit more complex with layers, there are several subplots going on. For me, they were not integrated that well and felt a bit klunky. I liked how this story started. Isabella has overcome a terrible trauma in her life and is going to live a little. Intrigued by BDSM, she hits up a club and somehow finds a dominant who takes her for a wild one night stand. Not particularly realistic, but it is erotic and I enjoyed the scene. With a memorable experience, she heads off to university with a light heart. This comes to a screeching halt when her professor whom she also will TA for is the man she slept with. Now from here, I'm expecting some naughty kinky professor/student sex. Whilst there is a bit and it is quite hot, there is a "single white…
