Review: The Diabolical Miss Hyde

The Diabolical Miss Hyde by Viola Carr

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Steampunk fanatics, there is a new author in town and she's taking this town with lightening, steam and mystery. Ms. Carr is a new to me author and I'm impressed. This story takes a classic story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and takes it far outside the realms most readers would guess. This is more than just a story reimagined into Steampunk with Victorian times and gas lights. This is a story of intrigue, arcane magic, persecution and murder.

Dr. Eliza Jekyll is the daughter of the infamous Dr. Jekyll. Orphaned when her father died, she's an adult and a doctor in her own right, despite the misogynist society. She helps the police on murder cases. She uses her expertise to advise and help solve cases. What she tries to hide is her own demons. Eliza takes after her father, more than just in name. When her stronger and more impulsive self, Lizzie, comes out to play, there is no knowing what will happen.…

Review: Crash & Burn

Crash & Burn by Abigail Roux

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the end? Say it ain't so! It is and Ms. Roux takes a reader through an adrenaline pumping rollercoaster ride. Ty and Zane have been targeted for a while now. The Colombia cartel is biding its time to destroy them. Is Ty or Zane the target? And is it really the cartel after them? Who is friend and who is foe? This story is one complete FUBAR mess. With the remaining Sidewinders brought in to help clear Zane and Ty's name, all hell breaks loose.

This is a book filled with disappointments. Critical people who Ty and Zane cared for are not who they seem. It seems this dynamic duo are to be disappointed by betrayal after betrayal. Even Nick is forced to experience a low in his life where he is sorely disappointed. This book should be called Napalm not Crash and Burn. All their bridges are not just burned with a bit of fire, the guys use Napalm to burn it down. The sheer amount of destruction in this boo…

Review: Mob Mistress

Mob Mistress by Renee Rose

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Those who loves Soprano, The Bossman Series, is a kinky version of it with less killing and just as much family politics. Lexi is a tight spot. No matter what she does, she can't seem to get out from under her debt. When her best friend jokes about being a mistress to a rich man, Lexi is horrified and laughs it off. When Lexi is kicked out of her apartment due to missing rent too many times, her best friend takes matter into her own hands. Lexi is introduced to Bobby Manghini at a night club. Embarrassed, Lexi wants to hide in shame, only to find herself charmed by his old school gentleman ways.

The characters in this story are endearing. Lexi is the girl next door. She's pretty average in every way. She's also low maintenance which is ideal for a man who doesn't want any complications. Bobby Manghini is done with relationships. Owning a mistress is not only his kink, but it allows him to keep her in a nice …

Review: Surrender's Mask

Surrender's Mask by Vonna Harper

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Porn stars are frequently considered as whores because they make money having sex. When BDSM is added to the mix, it only makes people assume the worst about the BDSM porn star. Ferron Cooper considers herself to be a bondage model, even if she is filmed in bondage whilst enjoy multiple orgasms. Whatever she wants to call herself doesn't mean squat when a male fixates on her and plans for her abduction and sexual slavery.

I've read a couple of Ms. Harper's earlier non-con stories and they didn't do much for me. The reason was because she blurred the lines between non-con and romance of it so that it became conflicted and unsatisfying. In this one, it's wonderful to see how she's straddled the line and created an erotic non-con romance. Is there such a thing? Yes, there is and it's not because the female experiences Stockholm syndrome.

The BDSM scenes in this story are definitely spank…

Review: Half a Dose of Fury

Half a Dose of Fury by Zenina Masters

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

More like half a dose of story, not half a dose of fury. Where is the rest of this story? Ms. Masters is becoming more of a tease with these books. I'm still hooked like a crack addict looking for my next hit. Yval is a shifter who is committed to the fight against slavery of shifters. She's so committed, she turns herself into a monster through magic. She doesn't care because all she wants to do is right the injustice. Even if this means her animal refuses to come out after her rather extreme body modification.

There is much more to Yval which seems left unexplored. Her meeting with Drorik at the Crossroads is not fate. They work together and Drorik is interested in her, regardless of what any seer may foresee. Fortunately for them, their chemistry is hot and furious. The two rumble and tumble in the forest and in the bed. It's sexy, primal and good. Just as the reader wants to learn more, the s…

Review: Kotori's Sacrifice

Kotori's Sacrifice by Dakota Trace

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sacrifice brings to mind pain, martyrdom and sorrow. In Kotori's sacrifice, there is pain and sorrow. It's a clash of cultures and lack of ability to be vulnerable which breaks a couple apart. Seba Havas loves his submissive, Akira. He trains and helps heal ones who are traumatized or "damaged'. Akira's damage is more through her daddy issues and Seba just doesn't get it. Why? Because Akira is unable to trust and communicate.

Whilst race isn't something I mention in a review, it does come into play for this book. Akira's Japanese background plus her rich upbringing explains her dysfunction. It seems like an easy thing to understand and overcome yet in reality, it is hard. It pushes Seba away. Perhaps it is true that absence does make a heart grow fonder.

This is the first Ms. Trace book which is just average for me. It's a quick read and enjoyable. The BDSM is erotic and pl…

Review: Emma's Corner

Emma's Corner by Carolyn Faulkner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Dark readers who enjoy body modification through piercing and tattoos, this is a book for you. Emma is a bit of a self-centered brat who behaves as a young adult would. She's naïve and is easily snookered. When she makes a choice which completely changes her life for the worse, it's when the story become disturbingly arousing.

This is book two in the Darkness Series. One can only hope there will be more in this series and that Ms. Faulkner and Ms. Hayse keeps the intensity and non-con situations. This one is a bit different than the first one in the series and just as good. There are so many BDSM Fantasy scenes to enjoy, it's hard to select just one.

It's impressive how the two authors are able to blend their unique styles into a cohesive and smooth tale. A reader can't tell who wrote which part because each scene blends into the next. In this plot, there is a bit of stretch to it with nanobots…

Review: The New Room

The New Room by Kay Jaybee

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

There is something a bit kinky mad-scientist with Ms. Jaybee. With this latest novella, Ms. Jaybee once again makes me both uncomfortable and aroused. Jess Sanders, the perfect submissive is once again being tested by both Miss Sarah, her lover and dominatrix, as well as her boss, Mrs. Peters. This time, Jess is put through her paces with extremes of hot and cold.

The reason why Ms. Jaybee is a kinky mad-scientist is due to her creative and provocative erotic scenes. She uses standard household items and perverts them in ways that are plausible and so good. For example, a room changed into a "cold" playspace where submissives are chilled on the outside and heated up on the inside or vice versa is quite unique. The sexual combinations she places her characters in are easy to visualize but the reason why they are in the situation and how she sets up the sexual torment is what kicks the erotic heat up to high. Ms. Jayb…

Review: Non-Negotiable

Non-Negotiable by Declan Heyse

My rating: 2.5 of 5 stars

To be single, man and submissive can be very intimidating. For Aaron, he is new to the lifestyle. He tries to break the ice by going to munches and dungeons, but none of them are welcoming. In fact, he's treated poorly for the most part. To experience the D/s dynamic he's looking for, Dommes are looking for someone more experienced. And they aren't interested in loners, aka lurkers in this world.

This short story shows a glimpse into the mind of a young male exploring kink. The perspective about cliques is accurate for many kinky organizations. The nervousness and confusion Aaron experiences is also accurate and explained well. The progression of the story itself is different than many I've read and it's refreshing. Beyond this, I have some reservations.

The BDSM portrayed by Lisabeth is one which I can see in reality. Lisabeth is not the kind of dominant I would have engage in and her kink is defin…

Review: All Fired Up

All Fired Up by Morticia Knight

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Conflicted romance with dirty smexy sex is a great way to spend an afternoon relaxing. All Fired Up is part of a series and full disclosure, I read this book as a standalone. It can easily be read independent of the others in the series. After reading this one, readers will want to read the others in the series.

Shawn Everly is an officer working the Vegas Strip. He is a bona fide law enforcement officer even if he possesses the body of a Chippendale. When he crosses paths with fireman Trent Marshall, a spark ignites and the sexy time begins. Both Shawn and Trent are drool worthy. They are boy next door sweet and playgirl calendar hot. From a character design perspective, they are easy to understand and admirable. They are both likable and suffer the superhero syndrome. They believe they are invincible and can save the day, despite the perils of possibly dying.

The plot of this story is good and enjoyable. Ms. Knight d…

Review: Brokered Submission

Brokered Submission by Claire Thompson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

D/s kinky romance lovers will enjoy Brokered Submission. Zoë is a smart business analyst who wants to broker a deal to show her business savviness to her boss. When a deal is jeopardized due to lack of funds, her reputation is on the line. Her knight in shining armor is not as she expected. He's a slick business man with unconventional methods of making deals. In addition, the strings he attaches to the funding money may be too steep for her to pay. Dylan is a jaded dominant. Rich and bored, he decides to break his own rule, taking a vanilla girl and tying her up for his pleasure.

This BDSM story is pure romance delight. For female readers who fantasize about a more powerful man to sweep them off their feet and out of boring missionary sex, this story will meet those kinky desires. Ms. Thompson pens a sweet romance with the right amount of rich male dominance and stubborn submissive. The D/s in this story is …

Book Review: The Dragon King

The Dragon King by Candace Blevins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A dragon, wolves, and a princess walk into a cave… Joking aside, buy this book now.  The Dragon King kicks off a new series from the kinky author Ms. Blevins.  This is a paranormal romance with vanilla erotica, so warns Ms. Blevins.  *Looks at Candace*

I don't think that word *whispers* vanilla means what you think it means.  To be clear, the sex between the two main characters is erotic and as close to vanilla as you can get when a spanking is included and a flogging with a clit vibrator is involved.  But hey, who am I to complain?  Gimme gimme gimme!

Aaron Drake is the powerful dragon shifter from the Kirsten O'Shea series.  This book is all about him and boy is it fantastic.  Once again, I'm hiding under the bed sheet covers to finish reading this book all in one sitting.  (Or laying as it may be.)  Aaron helped teach the Swan Princess, Sophia, when she was a child and into her teens.  He's always loved her an…

Review: Sunshine and Leather

Sunshine and Leather by Angelique Voisen

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Biting, spanking and a wham-bam ass slamming is what happens to Sol Daniels. Sol's life is boring and solitary until one day he's dragged into an alley by a huge guy who proceeds to bite him. If this wasn't messed up enough, now he figures out the bite turned him into a werewolf! With his first change about to happen, he doesn't know what to do and where to go. All he knows is that he's horny as hell and needs to have his itch scratched.

This story is straightforward with little conflict. It's easy to read in two wolvie licks! There is little downtime as Sol's aggressor turns out to be sexy Detective Aries Sanders. Some may find this trope about law enforcers being big bad wolves taking male submissives hard up the bum to be overdone. Not so for me. I still enjoyed this one as Aries sweeps in and knocks Sol off his feet and into his bed. The sex is kinky and no frills. Both men know what they …

Review: Rated: XXXmas

Rated: XXXmas by Lisa Henry

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Holiday horniness is at its best with Lisa Henry, J.A. Rock and E.F. Mulder.

Fall on Your Knees is a delicious m/m ménage with scorching hot scenes. Asa and Javier are uber sexy dominant males who make newbie submissive Drew stammer and drool.

What I liked about this story is the character development. I liked all of the characters and how they relate to each other. The ups and downs in a relationship and a confused third wheel is captured so well in this story. In addition, Drew is a delectable submissive. I like Drew because he is interested in the lifestyle, and even though he hasn't had any partners, he's experimented with different fetishes on himself. This hits home with me because several of the things he tried, I also tried myself when I had no partner to play with. I can totally relate to Drew.

The BDSM in this story is panty-wetting hawt. It's dirty kinky fun just as I expect from Ms. Henry and Ms. Rock. This …

Review: Legally Bound

Legally Bound by J.R. Gray

My rating: 1.5 of 5 stars

Mixing business with pleasure usually results in a bad ending. In LEGALLY BOUND, it's not the ending in question. It's the journey to the ending which is fraught with nearly insurmountable obstacles.

Daniel is a public defender who enjoys one-night stands. His last one night stand rocks him and as he's thinking about the sexy lover, Daniel is surprised to see him again, under arrest. Rafael is a professional dominant. Hooking up with Daniel is purely for his own pleasure, not for pay. So when he's picked up for solicitation again, Rafael is in trouble. Apparently he hasn't heard of the three strikes and you're out concept.

This story is all sorts of messed up. It is a mishmash of kinky erotica, stalker scorned and pseudo-lawyer theme. The part which is enjoyable is the kinky erotica. The BDSM in this story is mixed from an m/m smexy point of view. It isn't that kinky. The one main BDSM scene is a horrendo…
