Review: A Little Sunshine

A Little Sunshine by Abbie Adams
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Crush on a best friend's older brother is a hot theme. Add in a bit of Daddy kink and it definitely catches my eye. Ms. Adams is a new author to me. As an ageplay lover, I picked up this book eager to read some spanking discipline for a naughty girl. There is spanking. There is a naughty girl, Sunny. The execution of this kinky theme is what fell apart for me.

Tiffany's brother Trent is an older brother who believes in spankings. When Sunny, Tiffany's best friend spies upon Trent spanking his girlfriend, Sunny is hooked. Years later, still pining away for Trent, Sunny is tricked to take a solo trip to Cancun. This is where the writing style doesn't work for me. For majority of the book, the story flips between reality and Sunny's dreams. This is jarring. The transition between dream world to real world is choppy. After the first couple of times, it becomes distracting and pulls a reader out of the book. To t…

Review: Beauty's Kingdom

Beauty's Kingdom by A.N. Roquelaure

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How did I miss this one? I just noticed this book and picked it up. I enjoyed it thoroughly from start finish. This book is more sensual than non-con sexual slavery. If the original trilogy was all "Doms Gone Wild" or "Balls Out Reckless Kink", this one is all about RACK. This gentler, kinder, more understanding of consent is a lovely nod to the BDSM lifestyle. Returning to this world where Laurent and Beauty are older, wiser and retired, it's interesting to see what they do with the challenge presented.

I'm not going to say the sex is boring here. kind of was. There was only one new element from Lexius. That came out of left field. I mean, totally blindsided and I was aroused. I'm hoping there is a side story detailing Eva and Lexius. Because Lady Eva and Lexius have me completely hooked. The rest of the cast goes through sexual scenes which are yawn worthy. I'm not even a bit…

Review: Soul Rest

Soul Rest by Joey W. Hill

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

YAY for Christmas Gifts! I received this book for Christmas and I scarfed it down like a famine survivor at an all you can eat buffet. This book is so good. I loved it from beginning to end. The cameos from Ms. Hill's other series is a surprise treat.

Celeste survives a tough childhood. She could have turned out like her greedy mother. Instead, she worked hard to be an investigative reporter. She walks the talk. I respect Celeste and find her to be an admirable character. Whilst I do not have her life experiences, the way Ms. Hill gently lays it out, it gives me insight into how it can be for others. Celeste possesses several hang ups which she fully acknowledges. She does the best. She is currently in a good place in her life with a job she loves. The control she has in her life is precious. This is sorely tested when she finally crosses paths with…

Review: Driven

Driven by Kelley Armstrong
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fabulous new addition to an excellent series. Driven is the latest in the Otherworld Stories. This book does come as a limited edition. This signed edition apparently comes with beautiful illustrations. I lusted after this description and hoped my review request would be approved and net me one of these luscious hardback editions. Unfortunately no. Still, this ebook is a great read, adding another layer to Elena's world.

Sometimes, matching a person the right position will finally make the fit work. Allowing Malcom into the pack is a tough decision for new Alpha Elena Michaels. She hates Malcom for what he has done in the past. With her experience in the shifter world, it is better to be ruthless than kind. In a lot of way, might does equal right, no matter how much Elena is trying to make a change. Not only does she have a pack to prote…

Review: Master of Fate

Paranormal romance lovers who enjoy angst and torture #bookreview @HiLinseyHall
Master of Fate by Linsey Hall
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Paranormal romance lovers who enjoy angst and torture, this book is for you. This is the sixth book in The Mythean Arcana series. Full disclosure, I did not read the first five books in this series. Whilst I cannot endorse this book to be a standalone, I can state that it was easy for me to figure out what was going on and get into the story. Aurora is a witch who the majority of supernatural world loathes. She is a witch who subsists on other supernatural's life force. After the brutal killing of her mother and the disappearance of her lover, she went on an epic killing spree. It is impressive how dark Aurora went. This is all explained quickly as the story starts with Aurora free from her prison cell and working to redeem herself.

I liked Aurora. She reminds me of Dark Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Dark Willow is hawt and more interesting th…

Ice Monkeys by Tymber Dalton

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

ICE MONKEYS punches with chilling accuracy as this latest in the series puts so many wheels into motion. This story is an adrenaline rush with fast paced action. The General is touring the facilities, kicking ass and taking names. Whilst the focus may be on the sexy duo Victor and Uni, my panties are wet by General Arliss's plans and execution. This is a man not to be messed with. His ability to be several steps ahead of his opponents is incredibly sexy. A man with a plan who knows how to follow it and ruthlessly take out his enemy is definitely an erotic on button for me. I digress.

Victor and Uni nearly caught their own little sexy meat for their sandwich. Unfortunately for them, she wanted another pair. Now, they have their chance with Donna. Donna is a person who represents the quintessential book smarts with little street smarts. Her pattern recognition is off the charts as …

Review: Stepbrother's Rules

for kinky readers who like a Daddy to discipline them with a loving spanking hand  @ReneeRoseAuthor #bookreview
Stepbrother's Rules by Renee Rose
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Delightful, sweet and sexy all describe this delicious ageplay story. This is probably my favourite book by Ms. Rose. The story is very smooth set in the historical 1950's era. LuAnn is a naughty girl who wants to be "cool". Jeopardizing her associate degree for a boy in her dormitory is rather shortsighted. When she is kicked out of the dorms, her step-brother, Brad, takes her in. This begins a seductive illicit affair.

The characters in this story are wholesome and sweet. LuAnn is a bit na├»ve and sometimes a bit bratty. There are a couple of scenes where her juvenile behaviour totally warrants spankings and more. The dynamic between Brad and LuAnn is good. I enjoyed Brad's slow education of LuAnn into ageplay. They never come right out to say it is ageplay or kinky shenanigans. Instead it is a …

Review: Stealing Innocents

dark erotica lovers who thrive in sadistic lechery and revel in the carnal destruction of purity @riptidebooks @lisahenryonline
Stealing Innocents by Cari Waites
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Stealing innocents completely catches the essence of these four stories. There are no happy endings in this book and innocence is cruelly ripped away from each of the characters. Warning, this book is not for romance lovers. Readers who must have a happily ever after should keep moving along. This book is not for you. Those who enjoy twisted, depraved violations, this book is for you. If I did not know better, I would say Ms. Waites' family tree contains Chinese ancestry. Because we do not write happily ever afters and someone always dies horribly. That someone is not the villain either.

The first in this collection is Gamble Everything. This is a BDSM fantasy with non-con sexual slavery involving age-play, piercing, sounding, fisting and a couple of other darker fetishes. The age-play involves regr…

Review: Muscling In

Muscling In by Lily Harlem

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reading just one little chapter became a late night as I devoured this story. Ms. Harlem is an author of renown. I see her name and I know she writes good books. I have friends who like her. She is prolific in the erotic genre. I read a couple of her books a few years ago and they were enjoyable if forgettable. MUSCLING IN caught my attention and I figured I would try her again. I am so glad I did.

Ms. Harlem's writing has definitely matured since I last read her books. I really enjoyed this book and will remember it. I will most likely go back and read this book again. What pulls me in are the characters. Edward, Sian and Coben are a tasty triad. The relationship between Edward and Coben is a blazing flame put out too soon. When Coben marries Sian, it appears Coben finds another love and is happy with life. Coben and Sian are a cute couple. They are people who feel real. They could easily be a friend in real life. The way they are c…

Exquisite Redemption by Ann Mayburn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Love the bad boys with a heart of gold? This book is for you. Where have I been that I missed this series? What is even worse is a friend recommended the first book in this series and I completely missed it. Although, truth be told, it is better I started with book 3. This book can be read without reading the first two books. I tend to like my books going in a linear timeline. Personally, I prefer reading about Sarah's story first.

The book starts out with Sarah as a little girl hiding from a domestic violence scene. This quickly jumps to an adult Sarah who is a world champion pole dancer. She is also March playmate of the year. Sarah is done with earning the money she needs to set up her new life as an interior designer. Her one night to say sayonara to her old life ends up in a cluster. The national president of a large…

Review: Melissa and the Medic

Hello nurse! I'm ready for my exam. @BlushingBooks

Melissa and the Medic by Carole Archer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Domestic discipline lovers who enjoy medical kink, this story is for you. I am not sure why it took me so long to get to this book. I loved it. The medical play in this story is deliciously erotic. It is light compared to some of the darker ones I've read. It is sweet, a bit embarrassing and totally hot. Who doesn't like a doctor and nurse taking a "young girl" to task? Sign me up!

Melissa is a naughty girl. She parties and calls in sick when she really is not ill. When she is outed by her foolish posting on a social media, Dr. Ben and his wife Barbara take her to task. Honestly, if I had bosses like Dr. Ben and Barbara, I would be all for corporal punishment at work. It may make me work harder for the rewards and not be as stressed out when I make mistakes. Between the exam, enema, slight age play and medical kink, my panties are soaked.

Medical kink…

Review: Mate: The Complete Serial

Mate: The Complete Serial by Violet Haze

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Bittersweet with a twist
Dark non-con sexual slavery stories always pique my interest. In Mate, Simone is a woman who goes through a couple of incredulous experiences. This book a serial and I am thankful I read it all in one sitting. If I had it serial by serial, I might not have finished it due to cliffhanging frustration. Simone's life is shattered when she is kidnapped and turned into a sex slave. She does not know what is going on, just that she must please her Master. When she is finally resigned to her life as a sex toy, she is tossed back into her real life. This is when it becomes clear what has happened.

Ms. Haze does a great job of setting up this story. It caught me a little off guard and I liked the early twist. From there on out, the story is predictable. There are little surprises which throws the reader off. Near the last part of the story, there is another twist which kind of makes a reader wonder what i…

Review: Impact

Impact by Tymber Dalton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Get a tissue box ladies, you might need a few to blot the tears suspiciously leaking down your face. My love-hate relationship with Tilly swings hard towards love again. In this latest episode of the "kinky" submissives and the dominants who love them, Tilly really gets hit hard. For those who have lost children or desperately want children but cannot have them, this story may hit a raw nerve. I have no children and I will never have children. I understand Tilly's mournful desire. Tilly's desperate longing for a child of her own is all too clear.

The conflict in this story is realistic and moving. This main conflict is one which is a more common struggle than we care to notice. Sometimes a good girl makes bad decisions, one after another, and ends up in a very bad place. Sofia is such a girl. She does have one saviour and it is her cousin Cris. What is moving about this story is how Tilly and Cris rush to Sofia's aid. …

Part & Parcel by Abigail Roux
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Grab a box of tissues, this is going to be an emotional and cathartic ride. Reading the synopsis, I feared this is another death mission where the Sidewinders get together to figure out there is more to Eli's death than they thought. What I did not realize is that this is a mission of brotherhood and finding a place called home.

This story is completely character driven and I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of Nick because of the things he has kept secret. And because I did not really understand him and his motivations. This book completely blows my mind as I see how wrong I have been about Nick all along. I knew he was a good friend. I knew about his loyalty; what I didn't realize is how much of himself he gives. It is beyond explanation how much Nick gives until there is nothing left of him. Tears slipped down my face…

Review: The Player

The Player by Keiko Alvarez

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Charge up the vibrators, make sure there are extra batteries, this is going to be a wet ride. Ms. Alvarez takes the reader on another erotic journey which loosely resemble the "Real Housewives" reality TV series. Doug Flynn is a man with simple tastes. He enjoys tennis, golf, poker and women - not necessarily in this order. He is a player known for nailing women on a dare. When his buddy Bill aims him towards Honey and Dominica, Doug is ready to rumble. With little effort on his part, both women are quickly shed of clothing and riding Doug. When the sex is a "tit for tat" exchange, Doug easily slips in a bit of business deals for both him and his buddy.

The erotic scenes in this story are hawt and dirty. It is like Taxi Cab confessions smutty. I love it. I go into these books hoping for hot sex. The common fantasies are nicely reinterpreted and presented in a way that requires a fully charged sex toy. The only thing…

Review: Wicked Wild Fantasies

Wicked Wild Fantasies by Shiloh Walker

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ugly duckling erotica are a favourite theme of mine. No one does it better than Ms. Walker. In Wicked Wild Fantasies, Alison Ryan is the proverbial wallflower who is beyond timid. Her forehead is stamped with doormat. It is difficult to like Alison at the beginning for readers who are aggressive like me. It is not that I look down upon Alison. It is more I don't understand her mentality and I want to shake her a bit so that she can at least take a stand for herself. No one can fix her. She needs to make the decision for herself.

Fortunately, the first change agent is a mugging which nearly costs her, her life. This is happens early on in the book. The second one is a shocking surprise and is the much needed kick in the pants for Alison to make a change. Ms. Walker sets up this story so well. I loved how Alison is shocked awake to how she's living her life. She decides to take control of her life and boy does she do…

Review: Dragos Goes to Washington

Dragos Goes to Washington by Thea Harrison

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Dragon shifters are a favourite of mine. Seeing Ms. Harrison's name several times amongst my reading group, I decided to give her a try. Full disclosure, I did not read the previous books in this series. It is probably recommended to read the previous books for a better experience. As it is, I read this as a standalone and experienced no issues. It is very easy to pick up the situation and understand the world in this book.

Dragos is one of the representative for the Elder races trying to smooth things over with humans in D.C. This plot caught my attention because dragons shifters in books usually go one of two ways. Either they are super smooth and suave or they have no patience for annoying pissant humans. It is to no surprise Dragos falls in line with the latter philosophy. This series reminds me of one of my favourite authors, C.E. Murphy.

The world building is simple and easy to understand. For those just joining …

Review: Reckoning

Reckoning by Fyn Alexander

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Where did my Daddy go? I loved Kael in the first three books in this series. He is a dominant who leans heavily towards the SM side of the house. He is dangerous and a licensed killer. As a wet works operative for MI6, he is a man who had no problems killing a person. He does not ask questions. He is a perfect weapon to use for problem disposal. He also owns a lovely boy, Angel button. Angel is looking to follow Daddy's footsteps because he wants to kill the bad people and be on the side of the good. This book is not a standalone and cannot be read without the first three books.

Here is what I like about this book. Showing how killing someone without knowing the details of the person can be problematic. This makes Kael think about if his killings need to be righteous kills. Because for Kael, he doesn't care about killing the bad guys. He kills because he needs it to function properly. If the person to be killed happens to be a ba…

Review: Grave New Day

Grave New Day by Lina Gardiner

My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

With John dead, does Jess really want to continue on? After all these years, the one time she finds new meaning, it is ripped away from her. To make it worse, her brother is being questioned and perhaps taken from her. Her brother and John were there to watch her six and keep her fighting for the good side. Now, not only does she have no one to help her, she is fighting an old enemy. With all this change and attacks from different enemies, she is in deep trouble. She could use some divine intervention.

This story pulled me in even deeper and I am totally invested in the outcome. The writing is well done with the ups and downs. The conflicts and possible resolutions can be predicted as Ms. Gardiner sets them up well. It is the execution and how the reader arrives to the conclusion which is fun. Adding another layer to this world with new t…

Review: Little Secrets

Well written, provoking, gets under the skin @Megan_Hart #mustread
Little Secrets by Megan Hart

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Afraid of ghost stories and scary movies, this book is not easy to read for me. Especially when one is trying to read it late at night without waking the spouse. I picked this book up only because of Ms. Hart. I am heavily addicted to her stories. This one caught me off guard and I was thoroughly entertained. In Little Secrets, there are several mis-directions which generates a constant tension.

Ginny and Sean are married and starting a new phase in their life. They move into a new house and Ginny is pregnant. I have to admit, it is not just the hint of ghosts which makes my stomach knotted up with anxiety. It is the relationship between Ginny and Sean. They have marital issues, big issues which are demonstrated so well between their interactions. Ginny is a wife who suffers under an overbearing husband. Sean is a husband who is overprotective and slightly patronizin…
