Review: Close to the Edge

Close to the Edge by Dawn Ryder
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have read a couple of books in this series. This one started out confusing for me because for some reason the story started near the end rather than in the beginning. I think my copy was perhaps a bit messed up. Nevertheless, I was able to get the story from the beginning which makes more sense.

Jenna is a friend who tries to help a friend out. As a person who can sub in for catering, she shows up a little too early to a job only to catch people wiring her client's house. This is how she stumbles across Dare Servant. Dare is not expecting this spunky female to argue with him or even excite him. The characters were okay. Jenna is spunky. But Dare is a bit overly domineering and annoying at times. Still, they partner up to try and bring down a criminal.

The plot of this story seems to be left a bit behind with the focus on the romance between the two. The chemistry between the two is okay if a bit forgettable. I am a bit dis…

A siren song story - #mustread #buyitnow #5Star @naliniSingh
Ocean Light by Nalini Singh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

And... she's back! Ms. Singh brings to us a fantastic second book in the spin-off series, Psy-Changeling Trinity. This is a book I devoured from the first to the last page. From the start to end, I'm riveted and read this book until the wee hours in the night. I loved this one so much because we are focusing on the water shifters and I love everything to do with water. Plus we get to learn more about Bowen Knight, the powerhouse from the human alliance.

To prevent psy from reading their minds, Bowen and his top lieutenants implanted a chip they thought was safe. Unfortunately, it was coming apart and Bowen's chip was the first to go. In the last book, it looked as if Bowen's end had come. This one is all about his Lazarus rising miracle. This could only happen due to the help of the BlackSea Changeling and their scientists.

So it comes as a surprise that the…

Review: Dimension Drift

Dimension Drift by Christina Bauer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When it comes to dystopian novels, I'm a bit wary. The set up is almost always the same and because it takes a certain amount of understand of history and science, it makes it a bit difficult for me to read. This one, is just the right blend with a bit of sci-fi to it that I'm intrigued. I liked Meimi the main character. This story is way too short as it ended right as the story started to get good. This is a prequel in some ways and it did a good job in setting up the world as well as the characters.

This is a bleak world where there are haves and have nots. Meimi is a have not so that she can contain her freedom. Unfortunately for her, she is young and dumb. This is to be expected of a seventeen year old. Many questions arise out of this story and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. One can only hope the next story is longer.

The pace of this story is nice and fast. It is concise with not an e…

Review: Moonlight And Midtown

Moonlight And Midtown by Christina Bauer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

New to me author Ms. Bauer intrigues me. I generally avoid YA because in the past ten years, it tends to have such a toxic reader/reviewer/author environment. It saddens me because sometimes, there are gems like this little story that I would pass up and miss. This novella is intriguing as it hints of a tie ins to fairy tales I've enjoyed reading.

In this one, the focus is on Bryar Rose who is based off the sleeping beauty template. I have not read the first book in this series and now I'm thinking of going back to find it. It is interesting to learn about how fae, shifter and witches intermingle in this world. Lucky Bryar is an intersection of all three and that makes for some challenging times.

The characters in this story are young and yet they behave older than I would have thought. Specifically, Bryar's mate Knox seems to be pretty mature. It is nice to see young adults who genuinely like each other. Th…

Review: The Big Alpha in Town

The Big Alpha in Town by Eve Langlais
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

This anthology is hilarious. I sucked this one down. I wish I could give half star ratings. This is 3.5 with the amount of sweet humour. The first one made me laugh the entire time.

Bearing His Name
This one is shifter bears who have so many male cousins that it is hard to count them. They are Greek and the tie in to honey is nicely done. Ark is a bit concerned as he received a random card telling him he has a baby mommy. The big problem? At least another 11 cousins are in the same situation. Determined to figure out what is going on, Ark meets the challenge head on. He tracks down the pregnant woman only to find she isn't the one pregnant. Jade's sister is pregnant and she can't figure out who is her baby daddy.

This could make the story ridiculous and corny. Instead, it is cute. Between the chasing of a mate and figuring out "who's your daddy?", this novella will keep a reader amused.

Review: Wicked Attraction

Wicked Attraction by Megan Hart
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Recommended to read these books in order. I read the second one before the first. This is the first book of Ms. Hart that did nothing for me. It was just okay. I'm used to having internal conflict with the characters. Something tortuously poignant which makes me sad is what I expect. For this one, maybe because I didn't read the first book, it did not pull me in.

This story was hard to get into. Since Nina has a sort of amnesia, she didn't remember Ewan. The chemistry or relationship between these two don't do much for because because I didn't really see the love. It is clear Ewan is torn about Nina and wants to do everything for her. Nina trying to regain her memory and figure out answers to her questions made her seem distant. For a romance novel, this left me a bit cold and disengaged.

The main plot is about fixing these "bionic" people. It seems there is a conspiracy that continues to cause prob…

Review: Losing It

Losing It by Christine d'Abo
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Too cute for words, Finn Miller is the awkward guy who is so sweet. I just want to take him under my wing and protect him. As the reader gets to know Finn and his idiosyncrasies better, it is hard not to fall a bit in love with Finn. He is loyal, smart and possess an ever optimistic outlook. He is the kind of guy who would never let their friend down. His crush on Leo was interesting. When this book takes a turn when Finn meets Justin, the story starts to get really good. I have not read the first three books in this series and it was still easy for me to pick up the tie ins from previous books.

Justin is a guy who has hit rock bottom. Things he's down has burned so many bridges and he never prepared for the day when it all came crashing down on him. Maybe if I had read Faking It, I would have been predisposed to not like Justin in this book. Since I did not, I felt for Justin. He is a guy who realized a little too late, …

Review: Queen

Queen by Candace Blevins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Read this book now for your happily ever after. This book needs to be read after reading the first three. It is a glimpse into what happens after happily ever after has occurred. Of the four books in this series, this is the sweetest and tamest one. There are still some dark kinky scenes to appease the depraved. Delightfully, there are thought provoking concepts in this story which is something I love about Ms. Blevins' writing style. Let's start with Prince Rowan.

Let's start with Rowan's journey. Now that Rowan is done with his apprenticeship under Queen Mab, he needs to move into his own castle and run his own kingdom. Marriage to Ciara helps him open the way back to being his father's heir. What I liked about Rowan in this book is witnessing how much he's matured and more specifically, his dominant side coming to light. When Rowan was selfish, his domineering personality and cruelty wreck havoc across his fat…
