Review: Whispers in the Dark

Whispers in the Dark by Maya Banks

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good reading week so far. Two four star reviews in a row! The KGI books are a hit or miss. Sometimes they are dead on and other times they are just good. This one, is a four star because it dragged out emotions of sorrow. Anything which moves me to tears will automatically hit a 4 star. This book is a tear jerk-er with strong people tortured in horrible ways. Ms. Banks avoids the graphic details. Just enough is demonstrated to give the feeling of utter helplessness and despair from both Nathan and Shea.

Nathan is a prisoner of war when a mission goes south fast. He's tortured and lives day by day as his teammates are eliminated one by one. To take a hardened trained military man and break him down to a naked, starved, beaten man filled with despair is a very difficult thing to watch. What Ms. Banks described is probably even less than what really occurs out there in the world. This makes the gruesome p…

Where did the year go?

It's August 2012 already!  Seven months have come and gone so quick.  The last month was pretty intensive with my daily writings for 30 Days of Kink.  I didn't think I'd be able to make it, but I did!  Woohoo!  Yay me.

This month I'm going to focus on some of my short stories that I never finished.  I'm determined to finish at least one of them.  If I do more than one, that will be great!  Then I see pictures that make me go... hmmm..

This one which is stacked steel cages just makes my mind go in a whirl.

Review: Blonde and Owner

Blonde and Owner by Sindra van Yssel

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Tricked into going into a BDSM club was a nasty surprise for Susan. Susan didn't know much about BDSM, but she knew she didn't want to do anything with her date, Bert. Her first introduction to this kinky world would have left a bad taste in anyone's mouth and have her running for the hills. The fact that she didn't run away screaming and threatening to call the police is telling.

Vincent is a Dom who is much sought after. Are there any good Doms who aren't sought after? Vincent comes to Susan's rescue at the club. From there he takes her under his whips, er, wings. Vincent guides Susan in this new fantastically erotic world. Susan's misconceptions about BDSM are dispelled and she craves more but fears the term slave. Isn't being a slave a bad thing? All rights are stripped away as well as opinions and a life outside of her master is what slavery means to her.

This is a very common perception …

30 Days of Kink Day 30: Whatever BDSM/kink related thing you want to write about.

I'm thinking of writing reviews now for sex toys on my blog.  It came to me from two venues.  In the BDSM Group on Goodreads, author Will Versuch contacted several toy companies to see if they were willing to donate sex toys as giveaway prizes for the BDSM group in exchange for a review.  I didn't hold my breath so it was to my great surprise within a week, Will received an affirmative back.  So now, in the BDSM grouop, we have our very first sex toy giveaway.  I thought about all the sex toys I've purchased over the years and thought, perhaps I should mention the ones I've tried, the good, the bad and the ugly.  There is one sex toy blog website which my spouse has sent me to various times.  They do a lovely job and sometimes I agree with them.

Then I saw on an blog by Jane from Chintz Curtain her toy reviews which made me go, hmm, this could be fun!  Especially since I've already convinced several of my friends to purchase my favourite vibrator.  I've writte…

Review: Peter Birch Presents: Confessions Volume 1

Peter Birch Presents: Confessions Volume 1 by Peter Birch

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Did you like penthouse forum letters? I did. This is reminiscent of those stories. Totally enjoyable! Official review here!

Any voyeurs out there? I know you are there and just keeping mum. It is okay as volume one from Peter Birch's collection of CONFESSIONS will tickle your fancy. We are treated to stories of watching girls sunbathe nude while a horny guy jerks off and a prissy teacher who enjoy ass to mouth.

I have to admit, my favorite one is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. This was a hot one that reads as if it were straight from penthouse letters. The twist in the story isn't too hard to predict, yet it is one of my favorite fantasies to read. The hot ménage a trois with the perversion perpetrated by an angry ex-girlfriend could have been a chilling revenge against the man. The ending is different because his decision once the revenge was revealed only made his ex-girlfriend Lucie look like a fool…

30 Days of Kink Day 29: Do you have a BDSM title (e.g. mistress, master, slut, pig, whore, princess, goddess, ma’am, sir)? What is your opinion of the use of titles in general?

I have no title.  I've been addressed as Mistress and "little one".  I've also been addressed as Pet.  I haven't a specific title because for me, it doesn't really mean much.  It's the intent which means more to me.  Since the person I most want to have a D/s dynamic with isn't on board with it, the titles from others don't impact me the way it would from the one I most desire it from. I still like it, but it's not exactly the same.

I find titles rather amusing.  At times, depending on the person, it is either arousing or abysmal.  Here's why.  A person has to fit the title for me.  There are many who want to be addressed as Master, Mistress, Sir, Goddess, Master of All, you name it, and it is a joke to me because I do not respect them.  I am a strongly opinionated Switch with sub tendencies.  For a person I don't know well or don't think of as a Dom/me I'd willingly submit to, these titles come across as pompous and ludicrous…

Review: Carnal Machines: Steampunk Erotica

Carnal Machines: Steampunk Erotica by D.L. King

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Steam powered sex toys, energy sources powered by sex, human like steam powered robots, what isn’t in this book? Carnal Machines is an anthology filled with steamy hot stories. Each story increases in intensity. The cleverly written short stories are all tightly woven to deliver the maximum pleasure in the minimum amount of pages. This allows for the reader to experience fourteen wonderful stories from different writers all in one sitting. The steampunk technology used in each story clearly shows the author understands the steampunk genre. These devices used in sexual ways will blow the minds off of many a reader.

What is nice about this anthology is the mix of maledom and femdom. Not all the books were males dominating the proper and meek Victorian female. Several of the stories included a strong Domme perpetrating her wicked way on submissive males. Some of the stories are m/m or f/f which further enhan…

30 Days of Kink Day 28: How do you dress for kink/BDSM play? What significance does your attire have to you?

I don't usually dress for BDSM play.  I find it more a state of mind than a state of dress.  This being said, I do like to wear kinky attire.   I recently purchased many a corsets which I find to be erotic.  The constricting presence of the corset gives me the lovely bondage feeling I enjoy.  This is a reason why I enjoy restraints so much.  I own a set of lovely leather cuffs for wrists and ankles.  I also own a matching leather collar which I love.  This collar is showcased in the blog.

Sometimes, the clothing I wear is more for roleplaying.  I have a naughty school girl outfit which I wear to encourage a hot OTK spanking scene.  Clothing does help set the mood and start some kinky fun.  I just find that it alone doesn't always work.

When I'm in a particularly submissive mood and I want to show it in public yet privately, I wear my day collar and slave ring bracelet.  Both pieces of jewelry are custom made, one of kind.  They are not obvious in the BDSM theme, but if a …

Review: Backfire

Backfire by Catherine Coulter

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sherlock and Savich are back! This time, they have a mysterious threat - "FOR WHAT YOU DID YOU DESERVE THIS". The crazies are just out and about in this book. Once again the readers are treated to a delightful double threaded plot line which are humming side by side.

Judge Dredd, real name - Ramsey Hunt is shot by a sniper. Ramsey is working as the judge on a high profile espionage case. There seemed to be some underhanded dealings from the prosecutor's office. On top of this, we have a budding romance between Agent Harry and US Marshall Eve. What is interesting about this style of writing, is the reader sees a more complete picture of this world. Different points of views and how the cast of characters interact gives a better idea of how pieces fit together. In addition, the story moves along fast and furious. This book is a page turner.

Each storyline contain little enhancements which makes it more robust. …

30 Days of Kink Day 27: Do your non-kink interests ever find their way into your kinky activities? If so, how?

I don't believe my non-kink interests ever find my way into my kinky activities.   It is generally the other way a round.  I find my kinky ways slowly permeate my life.  It's hard at times to hold it in check.  My comments are always of a BDSM twist.  Lately, I've just held my tongue at work and not commented.  It's a good thing I am not sitting across from people so they can see my facial expressions or read my body language.  I'm sure if they were near me, I'd have several people taking a trip to the gutter with me.

What is most interesting about my kinky side as an undercurrent at work, is it works in favour for me for the most part.  The Domme persona speaks loudly at work which both men and women respond surprisingly well to it.  I'm never mean about it or bullying, just more matter of fact with a slight touch of wry humour.  This tends to catch most people off guard.  They aren't sure if what I said was really what I said or if they imagined it.…

Review: In the Zone

In the Zone by Sierra Cartwright

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Look at me," he snapped… "Keep your eyes open. For this moment, I am your entire world. Don't forget it."

Yes, Sir!

My eyes widened at the same time my body melted a bit. These are such simple words yet the tone from Master Nathaniel has me jumping to obey instantly. I'm not surprised Alani feels the same. Some men have a commanding presence; some men are clueless. Master Nathaniel is the former. I'd submit to him anytime. Now that he is back in the dungeon as one of the managing owners, Alani is in for it.

Alani is a professional submissive. I conceptually know these people exist though I haven't met any nor have I seen any advertised. This is kind of odd since I know many more submissives than Dom/mes. Yet, I am fully aware of several professional Dommes. I have my theories on why this is the case, but that is neither here nor there. What I do like is reading a story where one of the characte…

30 Days of Kink Day 26: What’s your opinion on online BDSM play?

This is a tough question.  I find that online BDSM play is very good at stimulating the mind and emotions.  In turn, things can become quite physical.  Do I find it will ever replaced or be better than BDSM in real life?  The answer is no.  It will always be a second best.  Because when it comes down to it, the online play is not real.  It's play for a reason.  People can show their best foot forward.  They can break off or end relationships easier than in real life.  On line makes it convenient and easy.

It is convenient and easy to cheat when on line.  We don't know if the other partner is married or not.  Maybe they aren't even the sex they claim to be?  How could we be 100% sure?  We can not.  It allows for abuse more than in real life.  One could say the real life also contains people playing games and cheating.  Yes, this is true.  I personally find that it's faster to catch a person lying or misleading in real life than on line.

There are pluses to being on lin…

Review: Flight of Fancy

Flight of Fancy by Marie Harte

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Do you like it when the geek and the jock are paired together? Or perhaps the jock isn't really just brawn, he's actually Mr. Perfect at everything, except making friends.

Aidan is a telepath who constantly has to be perfect to feel good about himself. He never messes up a mission and his standards are high. It is intimidating to be around him, not just because he excels at everything he does, but also because he can read a person's mind. He tries not to, but some people think so noisily, he can't help but read it.

Gavin's power is the ability to levitate. He is also very good with numbers, which is why he is at a desk job rather than working out in the field. Gavin desperately wants to work in the field. The one time he did, it was a colossal mess up. He wishes for another chance. As I've always been told, be careful of what you wish for, because you might just get it. Gavin is given a chance to go underco…

30 Days of Kink Day 25: How open are you about your kinks?

I believe this is a funny question because I am extremely open while completely closed about it.  The reason why I'm open is because someone can ask me anything and I'll answer truthfully about my kinks.  My friends who know me well understand I'm an open book about kinky sex.  I also talk about it in a rather boring clinical way so it's not that embarrassing for me.

However, I don't use my legal name.  I also don't share my personal name with the majority of the people in a few social media websites.  Will I ever?  Doubtful.  Hence my claim that I'm pretty closed about my kinks.  If there were no repercussion for my day job, then perhaps I'd be more open and give my real name.  However, I've seen what happens to people who don't even give their real names.  If people disagree with them, suddenly their name, family members, address and children are posted for anyone to blast.  I find this despicable.

I generally fly low under the radar.  Not …

Paying for reviews - authors beware

I'm a bit late seeing this in the news. I did find it interesting enough that I'd like to bring it to everyone's attention, especially authors new to publishing. This is not a BDSM topic, but more a blogger beware topic.

There are blogging sites which do charge authors for a favourable review. Regardless of my opinion of this type of blogging site, I found the entire situation rather amusing.

I found this from author Shiloh Walker. In her blog, she writes about paying for reviews. It provides a couple of excellent link including to Dear Author whom many of us know. While I'm not a fan of Dear Author's BDSM book reviews and how their commentators/readers have attacked BDSM writers, I do find their articles outside of BDSM genre to be quite good.

Jane, is a lawyer in real life (Ms. Walker mentioned it). Jane's explanation of the threat of lawsuit against an author taken aback by the $95 charge is pretty awesome. See it here.

I particularly enj…

Review: Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica

Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica by Sinclair Sexsmith

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Woman on woman sex is alluring. The images of women bound, struggling, suckling, licking and perhaps some sexy fisting pop into mind. Surprisingly, not much of these types of sexy scenarios occurred. My knowledge of lesbian scenes is perhaps tainted by the patriarchal society’s popular sexualizing of women for their pleasure. I have no lesbian friends who share with me their fantasies or even what they like to do with their lovers. I do have my own personal bisexual female fantasies. It seems my desires for being with a woman are tainted by societal influences because they do not match what is in this book.

This anthology is very well written. The stories are all tightly woven and fast paced. The way lesbians relate in an erotic BDSM scene is surprisingly close to m/m erotic stories, even down to calling the Top – Daddy and the bottom – boy. There were many hot scenes of strap-on sex which was a del…

30 Days of Kink Day 24: What qualities do you look for in a partner?

For a partner, regardless of vanilla or BDSM, I would look for the same baseline traits.  I want the person to be a thinker.  Someone who has cognitive is a must.  As one of my favourite comedians (Ron White) says, "you can't fix stupid".  I need to have my mind stimulated.  My partner needs to be able to discuss all sorts of ideas, musings and subjects.  The mind is the most powerful tool for me.
This also helps in kink because some of the most perverted people are the ones who can take a simple item and turn it creatively kinky.  I love this.

Communication comes hand in hand with trust for me.  I need someone I can talk about everything about and trust that they are there for me.  They want what is best for me.  I want to be able to do the same for them.  I want them to feel they can trust me and know I'm open to anything they want to talk about.  There is nothing taboo between us.

This partner must also be adventurous.  We need to be able to want to try new e…

Review: Carried Away

Carried Away by Bridget Midway

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When your two best friends happily find the love of their life and you are left behind, how do you feel? Do you begrudge them their happiness? Do you feel sorry for yourself? What if a pact the three of you made helped bring that special man into their life? And you are the only one left who hasn't completed the pact yet? Or have you?

The pact was to take a trip to someplace they hadn't been before to find the man of their dreams. This little "walk about" helped Summer's friends Leya and Kat find the love they had been seeking. They urge Summer to do the same. They even offer to help send her on a dream vacation.

I find this pact interesting because I once lived in a place where several of us single young women were all talking about how hard it was to find a man. One time while we were drinking, we joked about how if we stopped searching so hard and just swore off men, we'd find the man we wanted. That w…

30 Days of Kink Day 23: Since you first developed an interest in kink, have your interests/perspectives changed? How so?

Yes, since I first developed an interest in kink, my interests have changed.  I've become more enamoured of the edgeplay ones.  I'm interested in TENS unit, fire cupping, fire play and electrical play.  Previously, I was more into the bondage and discipline only.  Now I also want the Dominance and submission with desperation.

What is it about D/s that is so alluring for me?  It is the exchange in power.  I like the transfer giving power over to someone who will use it for both our pleasure.  That's something that I enjoy.  It is a relief to have someone else in control, guiding me along.

I have also seen my perspective change.  I'm a lot less judgmental.  I'm more flexible with people and it shows when I'm used as a sounding board more oft than not.  People feel comfortable coming to me because they know I'm not going to say anything to anyone else.  In addition, I'm not going to judge them.  I've also become a better listener.  BDSM has made s…

Review: Power Play: Resistance

Power Play: Resistance by Rachel Haimowitz

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What happens when a strong man with hidden submissive tendencies comes across a powerful man who wants to dominate him? What happens when the experienced dominant forces a vanilla man into submission without a shred of teaching? Resistance is the answer. Brandon is a stubborn construction manager who is picked up at a bar by the self made man, Jonathan. Jonathan and Brandon’s chemistry is like lithium in water, explosive. Jonathan chases Brandon and makes him an offer he can’t refuse. Brandon needs the money and is willing to give six months of his life as a sexual slave to earn the money he needs to buy the construction company he wants.

This story is an intense BDSM story which clearly demonstrates how a BDSM relationship can turn so wrong. It is stated over and over again that Jonathan is a much sought after Dom who trains submissives very well. This may be the case. Here’s the interesting thing. He’s only…

Review: The Sentence of Anna

The Sentence of Anna by A.H. Scott

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Anna loves to flirt with Valery, her lover’s best friend. Philippe is a wealthy Duke who plucked peasant Anna from obscurity. Anna is the current mistress for the past three years. She is with Philippe because he shows her the good life. He’s neither a good lover nor particularly handsome, but he does shower Anna with luxuries.

This historical romance is written in an unwieldy style. The writer’s voice is drowned out with purple prose and too many adjectives. Flowery wording does not equate to a flowing smooth writing voice. It is one thing for the characters’ dialog to contain flamboyant speech; it’s another thing when the entire story and narration is crammed with flashy words which jar the reader out of the story.

The concept of this story is okay. We find Anna cheating on Philippe, getting caught and then punished. The punishment and the illicit sex could be steamier. The excessive usage of purple prose changes…

30 Days of Kink Day 22: What do you think is important in keeping a BDSM relationship healthy? How does it differ from a vanilla relationship?

I honestly don't think there is much of a difference between a BDSM and a Vanilla relationship when it comes to being healthy.  Both require trust and communication.  The more of both, the better.  The difference for me is a BDSM relationship seems to emphasize this more due to the nature of the scenes that can occur.  This is because there can be more instances of misunderstanding and possible injury.  In addition, there can be more defined roles for people.  I believe people inherently prefer structure in their lives.  Even those who say they hate it and are against it, without the structure, there is nothing they are railing against.

Review: How to Be Kinkier: More Adventures in Adult Playtime

How to Be Kinkier: More Adventures in Adult Playtime by Morpheous

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Advanced sex toys, lubes used for enhancing tickling, how to make it through TSA with sex toys and more are revealed in this follow up book, How to Be Kinkier. Author Morpheous writes another book which is even better and more stunning than the first book, How to Be Kinky.

This book is divided up into ten easy chapters to read. Each chapter is filled with luscious photographs and helpful tips. There are even how-to instructions with step by step photographs. Morpheous definitely wrote a book which can help any person who wants to get their kink on. There are many nuggets of gold in this book.

For example, in chapter 2 Advanced negotiations reminds us the three Cs – clarity, communication and consistency (p. 61). Chapter 4 - BDSM Play and Polyamorous Relationships, delves into relationships at a more complex level. It stresses the need for better communication and how to resolve conflicts…

30 Days of Kink Day 21: Favorite BDSM related book (fiction or non-fiction)

This is a very difficult question for me.  Seriously, a favourite related BDSM book?  How many book reviews have I done this year?  I believe it's already around 367 even though I've read closer to 370 books.

According to Goodreads, I've rated 115 books as 5 Star which is 3% of the books I've rated and reviewed.  I have to go with Interstellar Service and Discipline Series.  I say this one because I keep going to it and read it over and over again.  I do have many favourite authors.  Some of them write light BDSM.  Some of them write the taboo hardcore stuff.  I like the non fiction authors too.

Review: Fire and Ice

Fire and Ice by Tymber Dalton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Three dragons dancing attendance, a best friend through the centuries and a sudden wealth of family, what more could an orphaned girl want? We are back in the world of Baba Yaga, dragons, werewolves and more. Lina is back with her two hot dragon men, Jan and Rick.

Lina is the human reincarnation of the Goddess. This time around, she remembers her past lives and is ready for the confrontation against the cockatrice. What is a cockatrice? Apparently it's a two-legged dragon with the head of a rooster and it's mean, jealous, greedy, malicious and petty. There isn't a single redeeming quality in the cockatrice. Their goal? Destroy all other shifters and dominate the world.

Lina and her allies, the werewolves, are here to stop the cockatrice once and for all. This latest installment answers many questions and shows how this all began. It seems as if Baba Yaga isn't as objective as she's supposed to be. She continues …

30 Days of Kink Day 20: Talk about something within kink/BDSM that you’re curious about/don’t understand.

Currently, the one I'm interested in is an interrogation scene.  I've read two different interrogation scenes for people in the BDSM group I help co-mod.  Both of them were very intense and rather intimidating.  It was also alluring.  Why is this so hot?  The humiliation factor was high too.

One sub was pulled out of a bath, dragged to a barn and interrogated.  It read just like a scene in one of the books I read.  I was very impressed.  The other one was done in front of an audience yet she still got into it.

Here's my dilemma, how does the sub get into this?  How does a sub become immersed in the scene?  They know it is not real, yet they feel like it real.  The fear is kind of enticing.  Would it make me wet?  Would I be able to get into?  Will I become arouse?  Will it pull my submissive side out to the forefront?  Will I be crying and sobbing in fear?

Is this something I really want?  I'm not sure, but I am very curious about it.  I watch these interrogation sc…

Review: Spell Cat

Spell Cat by Tara Lain

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There's no such thing as witches, right? In this day and age, there is no such thing as arranged marriages. In SPELL CAT, James (Jimmy) Janx is wrong on both accounts. Although he's a secondary character, his world is turned upside down when he learns both are true.

Killian is a professor of history who teaches a course in witchcraft. He doesn't teach spells and this isn't Hogwarts. What he does teach is how witches were persecuted and the impacts of this kind of mass hysteria and persecution. This subject impacts him personally as he is a witch. In fact, he's a powerful witch betrothed to another powerful witch – Lavender. Here lies the problem. Killian is gay yet to preserve the powers, the witches have to stay pure and marry within their race. If they were to marry a human, they would lose all their power because humans drain magic from witches. Killian must marry Lavender to keep their race going with powerful witc…

30 Days of Kink Day 19: Any unexpected ways kink has improved your life? If so, what are they?

Any unexpected ways kink has improved your life? If so, what are they?

For a while, kink improved my sex life.  It comes and goes in cycles.  Right now I'm in a lull.  What I have found as unexpected is how it impacted my work life.  I am an acknowledged switch.  My predominant personality is all Domme.  My personal preference is submissive.

Prior to reading and learning more about BDSM, I experienced great difficulty with managers.  I had issues with authority figures.  At times I still do.  I was able to only connect with peers and those who are fondly known as support staff.  I couldn't get any of these people to do anything for me, but I at least got along with them.

Now, as I learned more about the D/s dynamics and discovered I was a switch, I started to use these types of techniques with my boss, peers and those who indirectly report to me.  I have found that my Domme personality works really well at work.  Did I mention I work in IT and work with a lot of men?  This pe…

Review: Twisted Dreams

Twisted Dreams by Bonnie Bliss

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

We're off to see the wizard! The wonderful wizard of Oz. For personal reasons, the Wizard of Oz story is one near and dear to my heart. I've always wanted a kinky reinterpretation of it. Is this fan fiction or is it a fairy-tale retold? Not sure, but I am sure that I am hooked on this first installment.

Dorothy Gale aka DG is a flirty big boob waitress at a Hooter's like restaurant. What she is, is a cock tease to earn more tips than the other whores waitresses. Her money is all going to her savings to get out of podunk Kansas. As much as she loves her aunt and uncle, it's time to blow this Popsicle stand and head for the big city.

DG ends up in Oz during a tornado like storm. Her initial entry is quite tasty with the Domme Glinda. Where does one purchase a pair of those dildo heels? Mixing strap-on sex with shoe fetish is HOT! When do the Davenport brothers to show up and screw DG silly? That will be a …

30 Days of Kink Day 18: Any kinky/BDSM pet peeves? If so, what are they?

Any kinky/BDSM pet peeves? If so, what are they?

I have a few pet peeves.  My biggest one is probably Topping from the Bottom.  I wrote a post on it which caused quite the fervor and debate in the BDSM Goodreads group.  They say that a pet peeve is usually something the person exhibits themselves.  I find that for the most part, this is an accurate statement.

When I was fumbling my way around BDSM before I even knew what they stood for and that there were communities and groups which practiced this lifestyle, I knew that I wanted some kind of domination.  What I didn't understand was how to go about finding a dominant.  I ended up with lovers who were Vanilla and never wanted anything more.  In addition, those who were Vanilla given a choice, would prefer to be submissive.  Since I didn't understand submissive and dominant roles or how it works, I just figured I'd tell my lover what I wanted.  I topped from below frequently and with more frustration each time.  It was a m…

Review: Spirit Bound

Spirit Bound by Christine Feehan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Prakenskii brothers are sexy and dangerous. They are alpha men who are magical. In this book, we meet Stefan. He's not the oldest brothers, but he is one of the unfortunate ones who was trained harshly and under the thumb of his parents' murderer. I don't know how I could stand this. If someone murdered my parents in front of my eyes and ripped my siblings from me, I would do everything I could to bring my siblings back to me and kill the son of a bitch. I expect this to be the end game. It better be.

This story I liked better than some of the recent Ms. Feehan ones. I think it's because the female lead is Asian. The cover is very hot and I wish my body looked like hers. Judith is a fascinating character for me. Her guilt is interesting. Her guilt over her brother's death is understandable. As is the accidental death due to her emotions going wild. What causes confusion is her unwillingness…

30 Days of Kink Day 17: What misconception about kinky people would you most like to clear up?

What misconception about kinky people would you most like to clear up?

There are so many! I think the one I most want to clear up is the fact that we are considered abusers or mentally ill.  I find both of these labels inherently insulting.  Regardless of kinky or not, there are abusers and mentally ill people in the world.  Just because it's a lifestyle that isn't within their understanding or desires, doesn't mean that it's wrong and that we are abusive or need psychiatric help.

I find people with such narrow minds disappointing.  I generally don't have much to do with them and when they talk to me, I keep my opinions to myself and generally ignore them.  I pick my battles.  There is no reason for me to force them to change their mind.  They won't because they are convicted in their belief.  That is their right.  Once they try to push their belief onto me, that is where there will be issues.

I've been told I have a very cutting vocabulary.  Sometimes, it&…

Review: Bound by a Vampire Queen

Bound by a Vampire Queen by Joey W. Hill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The couple I love best is back! I thought we wouldn't have another story with Lady Lyssa and Jacob. This one I had been dreading because I basically had my happily ever after. Why would I want this messed up? It is WONDERFUL Ms. Hill returns to the original couple who captured my heart. This was really the first paranormal romance series which showcased erotic, BDSM and more specifically, femdom. I LOVED the Femdom in this story. Ms. Hill does it so bloody well.

In this latest book, Jacob needs to submit in public to Lady Lyssa in the fae world. This fae world is AMAZING. We have unicorns, phoenixes, mermaids, selkies, sirens, nymphs, faires, and so many other mythical creatures to name. This world is painted in high definition. I could see every scene Ms. Hill described. If only she added more descriptions of scents and taste, I'd have been in sensory overload.

The plot in this story was very tight…

30 Days of Kink Day 16: What are the most difficult aspects of having a sexuality that involves kink or BDSM for you personally?

What are the most difficult aspects of having a sexuality that involves kink or BDSM for you personally?

The most difficult aspect is the fact that the love of my life does not share this desire with me.  There is not much to say about this other than this one sentence.  I could go on in detail but it would just be a whiny rant.  Suffice to say, after years of cajoling, enticing and strong arming, I've given up.  I'm not going to do a bloody thing to initiate.  I'm not happy about cutting of this part of my life from him, but at this point, I'm at a lost of what I can do.  Everything I've tried has backfired and made it worse.  He's more vanilla today than when we were dating.  He's more gun shy than when we were dating.  To me, it means, he would rather not know this part of me exists.

Review: Red-Headed Stepchild

Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The very first scene starts out with killing a trusted friend. Seriously? This does not bode well. Blind loyalty to the Vampire Council, Dominae, is something Sabina follows to the T. It is quickly revealed Sabina's grandmother runs the council with three other elder vampire. This makes sense as to why Sabina follows so blindly without question. Sabina is a mixed blood - 1/2 vampire and 1/2 mage.

From the very beginning, Sabina's grandmother comes across as loathsome. She's filled with hatred. The more information uncovered between Sabina and her relationship with her grandmother, the more vile her grandmother comes across. Frankly, someone should have staked the grandmother decades ago.

This racism between vampires and mages reminds me of the Cassandra Palmer series by Karen Chance. Where the Cassandra series is more romantic and erotic, Sabina Kane series is all urban fantasy. The struggles of power …

Modern day slavery aka Human Trafficking

I've wanted to write this post for a while. Many of us BDSM readers love and enjoy the capture/kidnapping slavery stories. It's a titillating fantasy which doesn't seem real to us and is more of a speculative fiction. Some deem it as futuristic because in the 21st Century, for most of us in 1st World countries, slavery does not exist.

Slavery does exist and it is a rising problem because the profit gained from it is quite high. I must reveal two personal things at this time. One, I was an economics major (abet a poor one). Two, I'm a member of SHRM which is the Society of HR management. In my day job, I need to be kept abreast of HR related information to better service my clients. I bring these two things up, so you can understand where I'm coming from and how I went about forming my thoughts. Whether you agree with my analysis or not, it is food for thought.

The reason why I bring this up is not to put a damper on our fantasy. I still e…

Review: Autumn's Story

Autumn's Story by D.L. Strykor

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Autumn is a nice neighbor to an elderly man. She thinks of him as a kindly ole grandfather. When he abruptly dies, she's flummoxed since he is also the landlord for her apartment. What will the new landlord do?

Lewis is the nephew who inherits the property. He's delighted to meet Autumn. Single and 55 (perfect age) he is surprised by Autumn's description of his crotchety old uncle. Lewis is a retired detective. Yummy! He now sells home remedies. Right...well, enemas are home remedies.

Once Autumn learns about Lewis's retirement job, she's intrigued. From there, the reader is taken on to a lovely erotic enema journey. This is a lovely fetish detailed in some explicit hotness. While the author implies some negative opinions via Lewis with the BDSM lifestyle, it's mild enough that most will not notice, except subconsciously.

This book was a fast and hot read. Recommended for the enema fetish…
