BDSM Bedtime Stories Season Two Episode Twelve ~ S. J. Lewis

Today, we re return to a short and sweet F/f scene.  Mr. Lewis kindly wrote the excerpt exclusively for the BDSM group on Goodreads.  He also stopped by for a little interview.  Enjoy!

Welcome, S.J.!  Thank you for stopping by for an interview.

La Crimson Femme: How did you get into writing BDSM books?

S.J. Lewis: I'd been writing stories since as far back as I can recall. As puberty began to kick in, I began writing material with sexual content. Most of it was probably pretty bad, but I discovered that I had a strong interest in the themes of bondage, dominance and submission. So I began writing about those. It was always for personal expression or consumption. I never shared them with anyone until the Internet came along.

Then, back in 2002, an internet friend suggested to me that my writing was good enough to get published. She even sent me information on Pink Flamingo, with the comment that I should give them a try. They accepted the first book I sent to them, 'Vacation', in an email that also asked if I intended to write any more erotica for them.

I'd always wanted to be a published author one day. Now I was, or at least would be soon, and the publisher was asking if I'd send them more of my writing. While I'd never previously considered being an author of erotica, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity I'd been given.

I still write other material, though. I had a fantasy novel published last year.

La Crimson Femme: Over the years, have you see a change in the readers following you?

S.J. Lewis: I can't say that I've ever had a clear picture on that. When I began writing, Lizbeth at Pink Flamingo told me that their readership was about 50/50 male/female. Nowadays it seems to me that most erotica readers are women, at about an 80/20 ratio. Well, guys tend to prefer pictures.

La Crimson Femme: That is what I've seen from personal experience.  Men like pictures.  Although lately, several females I know are avid video porn addicts.  Now, what most surprises you about reader requests?

S.J. Lewis: For a while I was surprised by so many women readers asking for rougher, grittier content in my books. I've tried to oblige, but some of you ladies can be downright scary.

I've also been surprised by some of the requests for sequels to stories I'd thought were over and done, but it seems that some of my charactes are popular enough for people to want to read more about them.

La Crimson Femme: Oops!  Guilty as charged.  I do believe I'm one of those wanting it nastier.  Your males tend to go too easy on the women.  Do you do any research for your books?

S.J. Lewis: Some times. On occasion I'll go through some websites selling sex toys to see what's available, or go to wikipedia to make sure I've got the right term or definition. Otherwise, I just go by what I've learned or observed for myself.

La Crimson Femme: How did you come up with the Prey series?

S.J. Lewis: Outdoor bondage and hunt-and-capture stories always appealed to me. Back in the 90s, I came across a website, Hidden Pleasures, that featured outdoor bondage. They were just starting to get into full-length videos, and one of their early ones was titled 'Gold Diggers'. It featured a female detective searching the remote woods to find out what had happened to some missing girls. She gets hunted and captured in turn, and finds out more than she'd wanted to. That provided much of the inspiration for Female Prey. In fact, the cover image on the book is a still from the video.

Female Prey turned out to be such a hit with readers that I began working on the sequel, The Elusive Prey. That led to the origin of the kinky resort town of Gordburg, which in turn offered a great setting for future outdoor hunt-and-capture tales. I don't really consider any of the 'Prey' books to be part of a series, since I made a point of each one being a stand-alone story. It does help to read them in order of publication, though.

I should mention that the Hidden Pleasures site no longer exists. I became friends with the gentleman who ran it, and I was saddened when I learned that he had died of heart disease.

La Crimson Femme: Oh, I'm sorry to hear about his passing away.  I was going to look up that site you mentioned.  If you could go back in time and do something different, what would you do?

S.J. Lewis: Just ONE thing?

Well, in keeping with the tone of this Q&A, I'd go back to a certain time with a certain woman and do the nasty things I wanted to do rather than the not-quite-so-nasty things I did. I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have minded. After all, she'd already let me tie her up. In fact, she'd seemed quite happy and excited about that part.

La Crimson Femme: Hmmm, lost opportunities.  *sigh*  Many have asked if Gordburg is real.  How does it feel to know readers want these places you created to be real?  Do you ever wish it was a place you could visit?  If so, what would you do there?

S.J. Lewis: I'd like to say that Gordburg is as real as Oz, or Never-Never Land, or even Middle Earth. Anyone can go there, but only in their minds. Even if Gordburg never gets as many visitors as those other places, it's gratifying to know that it's the sort of place someone would like to visit and spend some time in. Yes, I'd like to visit it myself, if I could. I'm responsible for its construction, maintenance and expansion, after all. As for what I'd do there...  I have a small cardboard box stashed away on a closet shelf. It has lengths of chain, handcuffs, ropes and cords. I'd bring it with me so that some willing wench and I could play. The chains used to fit together as a sort of body harness. I'd like to see if they still do, and if the woman trying them on wants to see how they look in a full-length mirror as much as D did that first time.

La Crimson Femme: What are you plans for upcoming books?

S.J. Lewis: Currently, I'm working on a sequel to Gordburg. Ron and Elizabeth return there, but before they arrive Elizabeth tells Ron that she wants to give him something no other woman ever has.
It will be a journey of discovery for both of them as Elizabeth explores the depth of her submission and Ron explores all the dominant desires he's had to keep in check for so long. It will have whips, chains, spankings and humiliation. It's essentially a love story.
After that, I've already sketched out a sequel to Hunting Party. I've had a number of requests for that. Also in the works is another non-consensual story of lust, greed, betrayal, captivity  and degradation.
Beyond that, I'm open to suggestions, as always.  As you well know.  I did write Playtime for the BDSM group at your request.  Incidentally, this will be added as a freebie in the sequel to HuntingParty.
La Crimson Femme:  Yes! You are too kind to us.  Thanks again for writing a little f/f freebie for the BDSM group.  As a last item - readers are welcome to drop by https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/1184156.S_J_Lewis/blog">S.J. Lewis's Blog on GoodReads.
