  The Romance Review

Complacency can be the death of a relationship. Karen and Parker are play partners sharing intimate moments for years. The status quo is no longer fine for either one of them. They both seem to want the same thing yet are too hesitant to speak up or discuss it with each other. Karen is a submissive who wants a single masterful Dom. Parker is searching for a submissive of his own.

This story is painful to read because it is too realistic. My heart hurts for these two lovers who think they are just friends with benefits. Their relationship grows with their deepened intimacy through the years of erotic power exchange and trust. Ms. Van Yssel does an excellent job of bringing to life real situations between causal play partners who both want more. The fear and hesitation of each character is portrayed in a plausible manner. Their actions due to their misconceptions are distressingly familiar.

This character-driven story is lovely to read because it shows how a great friendship can break. It also shows the human side of people when they feel unwanted and unneeded. It lovingly shows how friends and the community can come together to reunite two lovers. Sometimes conflicted couples are staring at each other, eyes wide shut. Ms. Van Yssel does a great job of pulling the emotion through for the reader to vicariously experience.

The BDSM in this story is hawt. This is to be expected as Ms. Van Yssel's scenes are always accurate and arousing. In this one, there are a couple of scenes, specifically when Karen scenes with another dominant at the club, which are delightful. I nearly melt into a puddle of goo and wish to experience the same. This kinky romance is recommended to BDSM readers who want realistic contemporary romance with a happily ever after.
