The Romance Review

Darren and Kavon are back in the second book in this Aberrant Magic series. This story picks up right after the first book. This cannot be read as a standalone. This series does need to be read in the order published otherwise a reader will feel a bit lost.

Darren and Kavon are still in the middle of trying to discover how Darren is able to have a spirit guide. Whilst they are practicing his magic skills and forced to pass off the case to O'Brien, another case is pushed onto them. The duo are ordered to the Egyptian consulate to investigate a possible homicide on foreign soil. Why would they care? Is this more busy work handed to them by the American council? Possibly, and yet it morphs into so much more.

Ms. Gala continues to add richness to her world in this second book. She gives readers a glimmer into why magic left the world. She also throws in a few kinks both sexual and work. The work plot twist caught me off guard and I like it. I like when I can't predict what is happening and who are the bad guys. Politics do make strange bedfellows. As for the sexual kinks - there is a little bit of tying down and some rough sex. This is delicious as Darren is the perfect bottom for Kavon.

From page one of this book, I'm riveted and I can't put the book down. There are so many questions and so few answers. The questions answered only bring forth more questions. Ms. Gala creates a magical story with an intense element of devotion. This fast paced story is enjoyable from beginning to end. This m/m paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy a different interpretation of ifrits and spirit guides.
