Review: Wolf Hunger
Wolf Hunger by Paige Tyler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In a world that is constant changing, Max Lowry is apprehensive about finding his "One". He sees his team mates falling hard for women. He isn't sure if he wants it or not, but if it happens, he would be happy. Still, he is the youngest on the team and his chances seem slim. Plus he is struggling still to control his wolf. When he meets Lana Mason off chance, he's over the moon with finding his one. Now that she's appeared, he is no longer mixed in what he wants.
This 7th book in the series can be read as a standalone. It is better to read the previous books for more context about an underlying plot. Lana is a woman who is smart and determined. She finds Max just as attractive as he does her. Young love is beautiful until daddy comes in and throws down. Lana's father is determined to keep Max from her. It doesn't help that Lana's father is pretty much Max's boss. Confused as to why Lana's father would hate him so much, Max still tries to win him over. He already has Lana's mother's blessing. This is where the plot twist comes in.
Lana has no idea she is a werewolf. Max thinks she knows. Max also thinks Lana's father knows about the SWAT team and their peculiarities. When more scared werewolves come into town to be protected by the SWAT team, Max's personal and work life cross paths and hit hard. Frenemies turn into staunch allies. Omega wolves turn from crazy unstable killers into beta wolves, sometimes even pseudo-alpha. This covert enemy now also targets Lana. All those close to her are being systematically killed or tortured. Lana is in the middle of situation that she has no idea about and can only turn Max and her father for help.
This story started out slowly and then picked up pace. I liked the conflicts in the story as well as the slow romancing of Lana. This flip of where Lana didn't know she was a wolf and how she ends up freaking is nicely done. Ms. Tyler keeps writing great books with fun characters, good plot and continuous world building. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. This suspense romance is recommended to paranormal readers who enjoy alpha men and strong headed females.
