Review: Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon

Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon by Kerrelyn Sparks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Quirky, fun and yet somber at times, Ms. Sparks' latest series is one not to miss. I love this dragon theme and I particularly like these special children born on a specific night when both moons are present. This family made by choice rather than blood is endearing. With the latest sister, Gwennore up as the latest sister to find love, her trials are no less than her sisters.

Gwennore is a spunky elf who knows her value in spite of those deriding her appearance and specifically her identity as an elf. The last thing she is expects, is to be abducted by dragons and held captive by a mad queen. Gweenore is ideally suited for the situation she finds herself in. She is able to protect her young niece and possible solve a centuries old curse.

This story hits many of the emotions which pulls a reader into the story. We fear for Gwennore and her niece's life. Anger and frustration definitely appear as she fights her captors only to learn there is no reasoning with a delusional woman in power. There is more than gloom and doom as her interactions with General Silas is amusing and at time frustrating. The two of them are so well matched. They balance each other and if they didn't have so many political constraints, they could be so happy together.

Gwennore's story continues to build out this new world of The Embraced. I eagerly look forward to new books in this series. They are easy to consume and a decadent reward after a hard week at work. This book is recommended to romance readers who enjoy fantasy and happily ever afters.
