Review: Hayley's Heartland

Hayley's Heartland Hayley's Heartland by Jennie May
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

When it comes to domestic discipline, Ms. May is always a pleasure to read. This is the second book in the series and it can be read as a standalone. It is easy to pick up the relationships between each of the characters and their dynamics.

Hayley was a big time city girl who found her place in a small town with a man who practices domestic discipline. In theory, she agrees with him. In practice... she sometimes forgets and becomes willfully disobedient. She believes she is doing it because she is right. From an outsider perspective, it is clear Hayley is impulsive and doesn't trust her patient boyfriend, Joel.

I liked how Joel disciplined Hayley. She needed more than just the belt in my opinion. Her heart is in the right place; her execution is totally flawed. When her husband corrects her, she "pretends" to get it but she is still headstrong and doesn't seem to grasp the concept of a domestic discipline relationship. It is disappoint and yet amusing. Disappointing that Hayley is so obstinate and funny because when she is caught red handed, she becomes so regretful.

The dynamic between the two is shaky which is understandable as they are newly together. It is starting on the right path and it is clear in the Joel is quickly and readily putting his foot down so that Hayley understands her boundaries. I like that he does what he says he will do.

This story is more than a domestic discipline romance. There is a bit of smexy erotica and a decent plot. The conflict is crucial in this story to show how a relationship can work and how once a punishment has been doled out, all is forgiven. If there is a follow up book in this series, perhaps Hayley needs to learn the benefits of a maintenance spanking. Because it is clear she needs it. This erotic romance is recommended for kinky readers who enjoy maledom with clearly defined rules.
