The Romance Review

A new series with questionable magic and magicians, the Scholomance school of magic shows up again. For readers who have read Black Cat Security, they may remember this magic school which is not as nice Hogswart and not for children. Tristan Todorov is yet another former student at this school of magic. He's the latest who has been burned as he learns the truth about the school. Working without the backing of his school and other magicians, he freelances to solve magical problems. He's doing a steady business yet it is draining. The latest one looks easy as one of the perks is staying at a luxury hotel. When he uncovers more than he expected, will it take a turn for the worse?

This story is well-written and the character interaction between Tristan and Jarek, a demon is intriguing. Their dynamic is suppressed sensuality which bursts into flame as they get to know each other better. This story feels like a beginning where the reader learns about Tristan's past and how he became exiled from this exclusive magical school. Just as it gets interesting, the book ends and leaves the reader wondering what will happen next. I eagerly look forward to the next book in this series.

There is something about Ms. Ross's writing I can't quite put my finger on. It is tightly edited and seductive. Her bite-sized stories pull me in and transport me into her world. She is an author to watch as each book she writes is better and better. I will be watching her to see how she progresses as I have faith she will write longer books with more complex worlds with just the right amount of deviant sex. So far, she hits all the right buttons for me. This paranormal romance is recommended to m/m readers who enjoy magic and fantasy.
