Review: In a Badger Way

In a Badger Way In a Badger Way by Shelly Laurenston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ridiculous outrage, the second book in this trilogy is a must read. I could not stop laughing throughout this book because Stevie is so...crazy yet she makes so much sense. Stevie is a panic prone honey badger/tiger shifter. She is a freak in a couple of ways, and in the best of ways. She is off the charts smart and she shifts into ... a monster. A monster is the best way to describe it and it is SO AWESOME. I can't begin to explain how much I love Stevie. I adored her older sister, Charlie, but seriously, Stevie is amazing too.

She is direct and understands her psychosis. She does her best to manage it. She's loyal to a fault. And she is hella scary strong when she shifts and goes on a rampage. Big props to Ms. Laurenston in this character creation. Stevie is well developed with many layers. Her lover interest, Shen is an adorable panda shifter. Before we get to the romance, I have to comment on the shifters.

I am a big fan of shifters in general. Most of the paranormal romance with shifters deals with finding a mate. There is usually some kind of suspense and it is all serious with pack rules and hierarchy. Ms. Laurenston is refreshing because she takes shifter rules and turns it upside down. She is clear there are rules there, but she doesn't care with this series. The honey badgers do what they want and they are going to drive everyone crazy. I love how the different shifters interact in this series. I especially like how she designed the panda shifters. Shen is calming force and perfect for Stevie.

The romance between Stevie and Shen is... unconventional. As in, Shen isn't even sure he is in a relationship. Stevie railroads him into a relationship whilst he is still bemused. It's comical and sweet. This paranormal is recommended to readers who enjoy wild situations, kick ass sisters and general mayhem.
