Review: Tightrope

Tightrope (Burning Cove, #3)Tightrope by Amanda Quick

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Still set in the 1930s, this series continues to keep me intrigued. Burning Cove is once again surrounded by scandal. Back when scandals were a very bad thing and ruined reputations and livelihoods.

The story starts out with an attempted murder. I'm immediately pulled in and wanting to know what happens. Amalie Vaughn is a trapeze artist who was targeted by a serial killer. Apparently back then, some small town cops are still similar to today... Not believing Amalie, she barely escapes with her life. Her move to Burning Cove is a new chapter which she desperately wants to succeed, as a bed and breakfast owner.

Trying to live a respectable life, her first guest dying on stage does not help. Getting entangled with the town mobster and his friend Matthias Jones makes her fear for the worst. Luckily, she figures out that not all is what it seems in this sleepy resort town. And that law enforcement agency seems a bit too chummy with a renown mobster. The power movers in this town do try to help Amalie out. But it is really Amalie and her aunt's ingenuity which pulls them out of possible bankruptcy.

This story is a blend of Whodunnit mystery with a bit of James Bond spy plot. It's well done with the world building, characters and multiple subplots. I enjoyed trying to guess the villains and figure out the end game. This paranormal romance is recommended to readers who enjoy film noir movies. This entire tale played out in my head like a film noir mystery.
