Review: Sweet Possession

Sweet Possession Sweet Possession by Maya Banks
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Finally catching up on this series, I pick up this book from the library.  Since it is still during the pandemic, I have plenty of reading time as I am not going out and about.  it seems for Lyric, she too needs to be careful going out and about.  Her issue isn't a virus.  Her issue is 100% crazy stalker.  Too bad she doesn't know about the stalker.  All she knows about is her agent and record company sticking her with a bodyguard that looks down upon her.

I have to admit, this one is probably the saddest one in the series so far.  I keep thinking that Ms. Banks is done with the sob stories and then the next book comes out.  Lyric experienced traumatize as a child.  She never resolved it and now she tries to cope.  Her coping mechanisms suck.  She surrounds herself with mostly leeches who want to ride the Lyric gravy train.  It is disgusting what all these men do to Lyric.  She doesn' tknow up from down.  She needs some true friends and build that trust.

She finds it in the most unlikely of places with Connor Malone.  Connor comes across as an asshat at first.  He's pretty rude and mean to Lyric for no reason.  He doesn't need to be obsequious as a bodyguard.  He also doesn't need to be unprofessionally rude to her.  I want to smack some manners into him.  These two start off on the wrong foot and continue to miscommunicate through most of the story.  This drags the story down a bit.  Perhaps this is more an enemies to lovers theme but they aren't really enemies.  Instead, Connor comes across as a major jerk.

There is a little bit of alpha rough sex in this story, but it is pretty mild.  The sex part of this didn't do as much for me because I couldn't get over how poorly Connor treats Lyric.  Then he tries to make up for it through sex which is a no-go for me.  Make-up sex is not my idea of a good relationship built on trust.  Still, the story works well and it is a sweet romance once Lyric is able to stand up for herself and start letting the frightened little girl within her know that she is no longer alone.  This is an erotic romance recommended for readers who like alpha males and a happily ever after.
