Review: Unmeasured
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Missing the ability to feel fear is a problem when it comes to BDSM. To not have boundaries is just as dangerous. Samantha Hunter is a proverbial poor little rich girl who struggles to fit into her perfect family. She isn't a sociopath or a psychopath. She does not want to kill or torture. She just wants to feel something. She wants to feel alive and pushes the envelope constantly to the consternation of those around her. This technically is not a throwback review for me as I just read it this month. However, it is an older book to a series I'm trying to catch up on so it is appearing on my Throwback Thursday review.
The BDSM in this story is pretty accurate. The scenes are erotic and demonstrate when things can kind of get out of hand. I liked how Ms. Turner made it a point to show that Samantha's inability to process fear the way others do, makes her a liability. I've met someone like her in real life and it is a complete train wreck. It does place a hard burden on the dominant to be extra vigilant. In this story, Oleg is able to anticipate and also bring Samantha right to the edge. In real life, it is not so easy because humans are not always easy to read. In addition, whilst there is sub drop, there is also top drop too. Sometimes so caught up in a scene, it can get out of control. Especially when a submissive is like Sam. I liked seeing how Oleg's brothers experience this and realize they need to pull back.

Whilst there is a good amount of kink in this story, it is more than just erotica. Samantha is finding herself and this sexual journey she falls into helps her better define what she wants in life. Her perception of herself seems a bit skewed by her perfect family. It would be interesting to see from her family's point of view of how they think of her. I am not so sure it matches what she thinks they think. Along with Samantha's epiphanies, Oleg is learning harsh truths that have been hidden from him. It takes someone like Samantha to jolt him out of the path he thinks he must take. I am hoping we see more of Oleg in the next few books as I am guessing each of his chosen set of brothers will find their perfect match. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book to get caught up with the series. This erotic romance is recommended for kinky readers that like protective dominants with a bratty novice sub.
