Review: Switch
Switch by Hannah Morse
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a book in a series written by multiple authors. I read this as a standalone and it's short and sweet. The premise is straightforward as the prologue sets up the conflict and then brings us to current day.
The jump forward to current day, or perhaps the historical context depending on how a reader views it, is well done here. It sets the stage for readers to understand the ties between Anne and William. More specifically it creates the angst, revenge, and need for William to find Anne again.
I picked up this book because of the title. I am always enamoured of switch themes. Anne and William's kink dynamic is loosely covered in their romance. It tries to take center stage but honestly, the story would have been just as good without it. Adding the kink may lure a few more erotic readers to this story. The plot and conflict itself were solid enough to carry the story forward. I kind of wish there was a bit more elaboration on this plot driven story because it felt a little fast and light. The resolution is as expected and a bit too quick.
The kinky scenes are impact play and a bit of blood play because... vampire. The switching is sweet and light. Is it realistic to a dungeon play scene? Yes. Do the scenes in here lend me to believe the author is in the lifestyle? No. Still, this is a light erotica that give a steamy element to this paranormal romance. The blurb does warn there are strong BDSM elements to this story. Yes and no. For those who are used to fading to black or vanilla sex, perhaps it's a bit strong. For jaded me, this is one slight step from vanilla.
This vampire erotica is recommended to readers who love second chance themes.
