Queen of Hearts by Alta Hensley
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Starting up right after the first book, Lyriope jumps out of the frying pan and straight into the fire. We need to chalk this up to her lack of age and no real role models.  Because her mother is a horrible parent and should never be allowed to have children.  This is not a standalone book and must be read after reading the first book.

In the first book, I'm not thrilled with Lyriope.  She reminds me of Daisy from the Great Gatsby.  Just as Nick reminds me of Gatsby.  Well, the similarities continue down in this book, and Nick, he is in a world of hurt.  Lyriope is a bit better in this book.  She definitely doesn't match the cover of this book.  This book cover shows a confident take no prisoner woman that should not be messed with. Lyriope on the other hand is a complete mess and is frightened of many things.  Honestly, I'm still baffled by Nick's attraction.  Just like all his friends are confused. Lyriope is going to be his downfall.  Nick, cut your losses and run.

Lyriope isn't a bad person.  She is just a pawn that hasn't made much of her life.  She lets her parental unit mess her over.  She takes responsibility of other people's messes and doesn't handle her own shit.  It's annoying.  I wish she would become the woman Nick thinks she is.  There is potential and she just squanders it.  Her father is a complete asshat who smells up the room now that he decides to make an appearance.  Disappointing all around, her parents.

The sex in this book is dirty, sexy, and hot.  Especially when we take into account Lyriope's innocence.  The deviance in this book is very light, especially for Ms. Hensley.  It is almost, dare I say, sweet?  This second book is a good follow-up to the first.  I'm still wondering how it will all turn out.  I'm hopeful Lyriope finally grows a spine and does something right instead of blundering into yet another mistake.  This erotic romance is recommended for readers who enjoy alpha males losing their minds over a virgin.

* I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
