The Flirtation Equation by E.M. WooleyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Follow the science! Creating hypotheses and running an experiment all in the name of science is something I can get behind. Especially the one created by Kate Morgan who is challenged to explore her fantasies. This delightful erotica is about a woman who experienced a trauma-defining moment in her youth and continues to suffer from it, unknowingly. Luckily, her boyfriend, Vincent is there to help her through all of it.
This second book by E.M Wooley brings a smile to my face. This is a thoughtfully written erotica that celebrates sexual positivity as well as shows how holding back intimate details can also hurt. Kate is a scientist in the same lab as Vincent. As partners at home and boss/subordinate at work, sometimes the lines can blur. In this instance, it is delicious.
I appreciated a supposition of how a kinky scene can play out. Kate and Vincent's communication is strong which allows them to try out new sexual fantasies that could cause problems for other couples. Since consent is a bit part of this and informed consent is well played out here, it turns into a beautiful sexual awakening instead of a tawdry cheap thrill.
Mixing voyeurism with flirtation is nicely done in this story. Seeing mostly from Kate's perspective generates a better understanding of Kate's mind. Switching the POV to Vincent a few times also gives an honest view and concern from a supportive dominant.
There is more than sex in this story. It is about intimancy as well as feeling sexually powerful. The erotic power exchange is light yet a constant undercurrent in this erotica. This novella is recommended to erotic readers who look for something sweet, seductive, and a bit spicy.
