Review: Vampire's Choice

Vampire's Choice

Vampire's Choice by Joey W. Hill
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What happens with a submissive vampire crosses path with a demonic angel?  Erotic delight is what happens! Vampire's choice is one of my favourite books in this series.  Ruth's tale is moving with her determination, longing, sweet submission, and soul crushing sorrow.  I felt so many emotions reading this book as well as arouse.  How does Ms. Hill do it?  Find out by reading this must read book.  It can be read as a standalone.  Be forewarned if this is your first book with this series, you might end up finding all the previous books and reading them all.

Shall we start with Ruth?  I completely understand her frustrations and situation.  In a world where vampire sadistic dominance and erotic cruelty is the norm, she is a square peg being forced into a round hole.  I love how Ms. Hill shows that being submissive is not a crime no matter how much people want it to be.  Ruth demonstrates her strength regardless of her sexual desires.  Her perfect match is Merc who is a byproduct of an Angel with a Demon.  This dual parentage causes Merc decades of grief and conflict.  His conflict is both internal and external.  I feel more empathy for his internal conflict.

Ms. Hill creates two complex and lovable characters.  They are placed into multiple difficult situations.  What pleases and surprises is me is that not all the conflicts end in a happily ever after.  This causes a more poignant pain that devastates not only Ruth and others, but me as a reader.  There are many painful growth moments for Ruth.  The most pivotal one brings not only her but many to their knees in sorrow.  Well played, Ms. Hill.  Well played.

There are several allegories in this story that hopefully reaches the heart of readers who have hardened over the years due to the last decade and a half of divisiveness.  I could go at length dissecting and explaining the allegories and the life lessons, but no one wants to read about that in a review - except perhaps a literature professor.  Suffice to say, this story is set in a wonderful place - the Circus.  The BDSM is delicious.  The characters are fantastic.  Highly recommend this reader to erotic romance readers who enjoy vampires and angels with a bite.

 * I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
