Review: Rock Bottom: A Paranormal Rockstar Romance

Rock Bottom: A Paranormal Rockstar Romance by Candace Blevins
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
Silver is one of my favourite characters created by Ms. Blevins. I love Silver because of how they feel about themselves and how they are incredibly gender fluid. I'm not interested in arguments about gender as a social construct and everything else that is going on in the world. What I would like to state, is how Silver thinks, behaves, and treats others is a model of how we all should be . . . regardless of how we are born or identify.
Silver is one of my top 5 favourites because of how comfortable they are in their skin. They are not perfect and that is okay. They accept themselves as who they are and they do not care how others address them or what they think. This is a powerful message. This message is consistently enforced throughout this story, even when Silver's life is turned upside down by two pivotal events. First, a bandmate's life is threatened so Silver is negatively impacted by this threat. Second, Silver meets Julian.
This book shows Silver's point of view regarding events that happened in There's a Way. I do recommend reading the first two books in this series for a better understanding of the myriad of characters. Silver's experiences bring them to a place that they would have never imagined and it pushes them to a next level in their musical artistry. Even better, they find the person that is perfectly matched for them, Julian.
I am honestly mixed about Julian which is the only reason why this is rated a 4.5 star. He has not won me over yet. His history is sad and he does contain depths but he does nothing for me. His brand of kink also does nothing for me. What I do like, is his ability to adjust to Silver's fluidity, in perfect harmony. I like that they are not power houses that will become some kind of alpha couple to be feared. I like that they find their own way together. I'm intrigued by Silver's family and wonder how they will get to know Silver's new reality.
Let's talk about the BDSM in this story. Some of it is very hot. Some of it is not (for me). What is impressive is the detail of not only physical but emotional and mental. I can see the scenes clearly. This kink is not for the vanilla spice or the sugarkink crowd. This is for our balls to the walls BDSM readers. That is not to say only the dark and intense kinksters can enjoy this book. The book is thoroughly enjoyable watching Julian wooing Silver with his mating dance and sexy siren's song. I warned you, the BDSM is intense and not to be tried at home. Remember, this is a paranormal erotic romance.
This dark erotica is highly recommended to readers who enjoy character development and complicated relationships with a boat load of kink.
