Review: Silent Night, Obedient Night

Silent Night, Obedient Night by Candace Blevins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Best way to get over a man? Find a few more to help you forget. Willow seems to be living her best life. Her career as a travel nurse is going well. She is dating a wealthy man who will wine and dine her with the private jet flights for a date. What more can she ask for? Does she want a ring on her finger? Not exactly.
Sometimes, when the horizontal chemistry in the bedroom fizzles instead of explodes, it is a failed experiment. For Willow, trying vanilla does not work for her. Why? Because she her brand of needs go way beyond RACK. Fortunately for her, she is a shifter and in a paranormal romance, this can get wild. Hold on to your nipple clamps because you might scream RED well before Willow does.
What I liked about this story is Willow's unapologetic acknowledgement of her needs. She does not settle for less, even with pressure from her family. I appreciate this from Willow's perspective and wonder how my life would have turned out if I had placed this need as a higher and greater priority. Because for Willow, it turns out amazingly fine across all aspects of her life. She takes the risk of the "what-if this is not my best life" and works through a short term loss for a long term gain. Whilst this sound rather cold and logical, in real life, it is messy and emotional filled. Fortunately for Willow, she finds not one, but three men who match her needs in every way. Lucky Willow!
Let's discuss the BDSM here. It is intense. There are many edgeplay scenarios that had me wanting to use a safeword. I'm also notorious for my inability to use my safeword. This says a lot about the kink scenes. Many of them are dark fantasies that can only be played out in a supernatural world with the help of vampire powers and shifter abilities. That is okay, because honestly, most of it is deliciously deviant and smoking hawt. What I like about these scenes is the forethought and the aftercare. The men spend time ensuring communication and trying to get it right. They check in afterwards. They are not perfect and they also worry about going to far. Usually I prefer to stay within one POV but in this case, the switching perspectives goes a more holistic view and I am pulled in even deeper into the story.
When it comes to balls to the walls BDSM scenes that are arousing, terrifying and still filled with love, Ms. Blevins is always a winner. This paranormal romance is recommended to poly lover who enjoy their kink extra spicy!
