When a family member dies, sometimes secrets come out that may surprise family members. Vanessa is brokenhearted over the death of her brother, Tony. The two of them have been together for a while. They are not just brother and sister, but best friends. They share everything together. So it comes as a surprise to find out her brother had a secret life with a full set of other friends. When it comes to light the common thread is a kinky lifestyle, Vanessa is intrigued. With Tony gone, Vanessa feels all alone until his other friends adopt her.

This is what makes the series so good. This sense of family and bonding through mutual respect and enjoyment of kinky sex is a hard to come by commodity. This insta-family to help Vanessa grieve is a pleasure to read about. It's also nice to see how the "kinky" family doesn't take over the vanilla side of Vanessa's remaining family. Tilly and the clan are able to keep it on the down low yet still make sure those who knew Tony in the lifestyle can also provide their condolences.

Vanessa also experiences a birth through this death. She learns that she is even more similar to her brother than she thought. In addition, she meets the two men who were thinking of taking the next step with him. Reed and Lyle were going to invite Tony into their relationship as a third. As they support Vanessa through her loss, she grows closer to them. I have to say, this is an odd but plausible situation Ms. Dalton creates. In some sense it is disturbing that Reed and Lyle could have been introduced to Vanessa as her brother's boyfriends. Now, they are her boyfriends.

The BDSM in this story is a pleasurable experience as expected with Ms. Dalton. It's nice to see the introduction of a newbie into the lifestyle. Ms. Dalton excels at showing how all types of people can join the lifestyle from different ways. The destination is the same no matter the road they take--they find their way home to where they feel accepted. This story of loss balanced by new beginnings is recommended to menage lovers who enjoy kink.
